Anyone ever seen this or had this before?

Posted by theworryworm90 @theworryworm90, Jun 3 9:02am

Sent this image to my Dr. and he said he is not worried about it but I can’t find anything online that suggest anything other then cancer. I am very worried. I did make an appointment for the 7th of June but I feel sick about this. My Dr. tends to dismiss my concerns. The spot has been growing quickly so that is what has me even more concerned.

If you can’t see the photo it’s a flesh colored lesion on my tonsil.

Hey There! I would see another ENT doctor and get a 2nd opinion. It may be nothing, but, I understand your concern. Praying for you.

@covidstinks2023 Thank you so much for your reply and prayers, it truly means a tone.

I have not been referred to an ENT yet its my primary Dr. so I hope he lets me see an ENT.

Given your user name, do you by chance have health anxiety?

Do you go to/see your PCP often?

@seekinginfo Yes I do, which is why I think he is not concerned about it because I do worry about many things. For this one though I am more worried because I don't see anything else online that looks like this other then cancer and it is growing quickly over 3 weeks.

You really shouldn’t Google, especially with health anxiety.

The body is ever changing and there are many things that go on in the mouth that cause cold sores, irritations, swelling, inflammation. Your body is constantly working for you.

Worrying adds undue stress/anxiety which can pro long bodily healing.

I would seek help for health anxiety. Your PCP probably would like to tell you this, but can’t due to liability issues.

Many people whom come to health forums like this, suffer from health anxiety and reassurance seek.

The worst cycle you can get into is speaking worn strangers on forums whom encourage you to see more doctors.

Leave this up to you and your PCP to discuss. Not strangers, whom probably also reassurance seek.

@seekinginfo Ugh your right. Thank you for that. Sitting in the anxiety is so bad that some how this helps but I know it makes it worse. Thank you again.

You’re welcome.
Yep. At least you recognize it makes it worse.

Plenty of people I’ve responded to or other people who have responded to me on this forum whom take offense when someone doesn’t jump on their anxiety bandwagon and or do not add to their Google searches with “it could be this”.

I get backlash by actually doing what you are supposed to do with a health anxiety sufferer which is to encourage opposite action.

This is a Mayo Clinic sponsored forum so you are going to get many health anxiety sufferers whom find this forum through googling. And they think it is a more legit space because it is under the Mayo name. While it is monitored better than most forums, you still have health anxiety sufferers whom encourage people to doctor shop or perhaps their doctor missed something.

I don’t fuel a fire. The body is complex and amazing. Working for us at all times. Not every sound, skin reaction needs our attention or catastrophic thinking.

Work on your health anxiety and the reasons behind it. Get out and enjoy life!!!

Until Long Covid I would have agreed with you 100%.
Now, I think we are faced with something different. The so called “experts” don’t know anything, and we are left adrift.
I work with my Primary Physician in trying to find a key to what has destroyed my health and what might make it possible for me to have a life again.

Your comment “Get out and enjoy life!” Is an affront to those of us who can barely get through the day.
The person who wrote seems to admit an obsession with health issues, so perhaps this comment does not apply to the writer.

Many of us on Mayo Connect are just trying to survive another day.

Not talking about you or Long Covid.

Talking towards people who KNOW they have a history of health anxiety and health forums do nothing for that type of person/personality. And yes, if you have health anxiety (causes by thoughts alone) getting out and enjoying life is what any therapist would help that person do, to get out of that cycle.

Again-not talking about your situation or Long Covid. But there are many people with health anxiety who camp out on health forums and fuel the fire for some rather than help calm them.

Not speaking to your situation.

Thank you for your reply.
A do agree that dwelling on every ache and pain is not helpful to feeling well.
