anyone else with depression months after major surgery?

I had open heart surgery at Mayo Rochester in late June and am struggling with increased depression. I am making use of help from both a therapist and a psychiatrist to deal with this and have identified at least some of what appear to be the causes of the depression, and I'm dealing with those as best I can. From my fellow Mayo patients who have had open heart or similar surgery, I would like to know if you've experienced depression or increased depression 2-4 months after surgery, and whether the symptoms decreased over time. Will a light at the end of the tunnel appear if I give it time?

Had heart surgery and brain tumor removed . The heart was easier to adjust to the depression side, just changed lifestyle to suit me better. It took a while. But nothing compared to tumor removal. This upcoming March 26 makes 2 years, still not in control, had to get a councilor and try another route. The heart depression will change when you decide to change things. Hope this helps some

I had my first joint replacement done in 1999, and suffered a significant episode of depression for about a year afterwards.my psychiatrist said it was an adjustment to losing a part of my natural body.
