Anyone else find out they have a bone spur in their spine?
Recently I had a CT Scan for both the lumbar and cervical spine that was done Friday. After reading the report and figuring out what the word osteophyte meant. I realized that I had a bone spur in my spine. I am not really happy about it since I was hoping for better news than that. However due to recent falls in the past year I am thinking it could have started when I hit the floor from one that hurt the most and took longer to get up. Can anyone identify with my situation?

Are you having pain or other symptoms? I also have a bone spur in my L3 vertebrae, but the majority of my pain comes from many, many Tarlov Cysts on my sacral joint!! That is what is causing my spine right now!! Do you have pain in your spine at all? I am seeing Dr. Frank Feigenbaum in Dallas, TX on August 4th coming up!! I really can't tell if I am having pain from the bone spur!! Does that help you at all? Good luck to you!
I have had a bone spur in my T-10 vertibra for the past six years. I have so many other things wrong with my spine I hardly notice it though.
@rely1ngonhelp I had an osteophyte complex too or "bone spurs" that were pressing into my spinal cord in my neck. It was a situation that required surgery. Bone spurs form from uneven pressure and can form on the outside of the spine or in my case inside the spinal canal. I had a bulging disc for years that made pressure uneven like being off balance when you step on an inflated cushion. The disc ruptured, and the inflammation from that caused the bone spurs to grow. This is the spine remodeling itself in an attempt to stabilize the itself. Sometimes bone spurs just exist, but don't cause a lot of problems. When they cause compression on nerves or the spinal cord and can cause damage, then a consult with a surgeon would be a good idea.
Yes a great deal of that plus many other issues like neuropathy and also problems with balance causing falls
Yes. I understand. I actually have a condition that is known as DISH. Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis. It was detected with x-ray that I asked my doctor to order because I’ve had continued back problems and pain. They noticed many many bone spurs and I have bone spur formations off the spine as well. I also have some spinal stenosis & disc bulging. I am going to pain management currently and also doing physical therapy, aqua therapy is great! There are not many physicians who understand this disease & you may need to do some online research, but yours could be from falls as that is the body’s reaction is to calcify where a bone may have been harmed. To determine whether or not you have this specific bone spur disease, it would take an x-ray and radiologist to confirm. I wish the best for you, coming from someone who has many spurs.
I would imagine most senior citizens have a lot of bone spurs.
I thought it was odd when I read that prevention is consume a lot of calcium.
In the '80s I wasn't eating right. It probably affected my health and could have caused bone spurs in my spine.
Most bone spurs don't cause health problems. Definitely causes pain when it's on the bottom of the foot. I might have bone spur near a nerve in my spine. Hopefully surgeon can cut it off with a laser.
I'll continue to consume dairy products to get enough calcium to prevent bone spurs from growing.
I’m not certain where you read that calcium was a treatment for DISH but check out Mayo Clinic for more precise info. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/diffuse-idiopathic-skeletal-hyperostosis/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20371666
@babykrueger123 How did your appointment with Dr. Feigenbaum go? How are your symptoms these days?
i had surgery on my L4 and L5 to scrape the disks and lift off my right sciatica nerve. Surgery was 2 years ago and i have 100% relief on right side! it was outpatient surgery- recovery was about 6 weeks but the relief i got was worth all of it.
