Any treatments to help long covid

Posted by stardustlady2010 @stardustlady2010, Feb 10 12:15am

I had Covid 2022 but have following symptoms after …….cold, eye op for glaucoma, prednisone and antibiotics for cough with mucus, PNDrip, shingles and tetanus vaccinations.

Cough. Mucus in throat. Dizzy, foggy head. Fatigue, weak legs,
Had lots of tests but nothing shows.

Has anybody experienced this and any treatment.
I am 83 yr lady with no major problems except this.

Interested in more discussions like this? Go to the Post-COVID Recovery & COVID-19 Support Group.

Make sure that you have all the checks for B12 deficency and magnesium; indeed any problems of too little or too much vit b may cause a problem.
I would also suggest going to a larger university like Vanderbilt that has a history with covid and covid vaccines ad has a long covid unit.
I had a reaction to the vaccine which was proven by testing at Vandy.

Also something that I used but it took time was a supplement called SPM, prescribed by my neurologist. SPM is what your body makes from omega 3, but something that we make less of after an infection and with age.
Seems Covid is believed to be a low level inflammation problem for at least some people, and SPM is what our body makes to resolve low level inflammation.

Here is an AI google listing of how SPM supplementation might help:
question: How Might SPM Supplementation Help?
Unlike traditional anti-inflammatories (like Prednisone or Ibuprofen) that simply "block" the immune response, SPMs are designed to actively "resolve" or "finish" the inflammatory cycle.
1. "Stop Signals": SPMs act as biological "stop signals" that tell your immune system to shift from "attack mode" to "repair mode".
2. Cellular Cleanup: They activate "cleanup crew" cells (macrophages) to remove the cellular debris and "byproducts" of the initial COVID infection and subsequent vaccinations.
3. Nerve Protection: Some studies suggest SPMs like Protectin D1 (PD1) can protect nerve cells from further damage and may help alleviate neurological symptoms like brain fog.

Copilot did suggest taking a baby aspirin with the SPM dose to up the effect for me. Best to check with your doctor, especially about the baby aspirin, but also about the SPM.

I still take the SPM daily for my vaccine induced neuritis. It is much better and continues to improve. Here is the product which I take and which my neurologist recommended. It is available on Amazon and from Metagenics:

What is SPM

Well according to Metagenics which makes SPM:
"Specialized Pro-resolving Mediators (SPMs) are advanced dietary supplements derived from omega-3 fatty acids (EPA/DHA) that actively "resolve" inflammation rather than simply suppressing it. They assist the immune system in clearing debris, reducing chronic inflammation, and promoting tissue repair, often used to support joint health, cardiovascular function, and post-exercise recovery. "

Copilot has suggested based on some research that a baby aspirin taken with the SPM might up the effect of resolution and helping control inflammation. Aspirin can be iffy so best to ask your doctor and if you are taking omega 3s watch to make sure that you aren't thinning the blood too much.

But I prefer this description which I use:
SPM is what your body makes naturally from omega 3 and is used to help resolve inflammation in the body. The problem is that with age ( I know), with stress or disease, the body does not produce SPMs as well or as much, as needed. So supplementation may be needed.

Many people then ask, can't I just eat fish and take omega 3, that is cheaper than buying SPM. Well, then we run into that quandry that age, stress, illness makes it hard for you to convert to SPM or even produce enough so supplementing with SPM gives the body some help.

Personal Example, SPM has helped me and yet my body shows a large amount of omega 3s in my blood work. I eat a lot of fish and take omega 3, but still SPM supplementation helps me.
