@tisme Yes, lithium has a known side effect of causing serious kidney disease. If at all possible, stay away from it!

@tisme
Lithium is a older-wonder drug.
It messes with kidneys.
Hopefully, you'll find the right cocktail.
We're gineau pigs in the process.
Try deep breathing.
Wishing you wellness.

1 Reaction@gingerw. There's an over-the-counter supplement, Lithium Orotate. I have taken on and off over the years. It does not have the side-effect of the prescription Lithium. If you're taking prescription Lithium, be careful adding it. I recommend taking it between your regular doses. It comes in 10 mg. capsules. I suggest you open it up and only take half (5mg.) of the capsules. I've experienced no side effects with 5 mg. If I take 10 mg., It can make me sleepy and yawn a lot. It has a calming effect. I only take it when I know I'm going to have a stressful day. Read up on the Lithium Orotate and you may discover it's helpful for you.

Me too. 5 mg safe
@joseph1963 Thank you for that information. I am not taking lithium, but was responding to @tisme
However, I continue to encourage people to not use lithium in any form. As an end stage kidney disease patient, I have seen the effects of any form of lithium on the kidney function of people. It is not good. There are no studies of long-term effects on the body of lithium orotate, and the very real fact that people may increase their dose to increase therapeutic response and ultimately do irreparable kidney damage, can't be ignored. In my humble opinion, it is not worth the risk.

Respectfully, lithium is absolutely necessary for many people to manage bipolar disorder. It is certainly worth discussing the pros and cons with your prescribing physician including risk to kidneys.
