adam48, you probably already know about elevating them above the heart and ice. The skin is probably cracking because of the swelling. Soaking in Johnson's Foot soap can remove the old crackled skin. Lidocaine patches are pretty effective feet. But do you know why they are swollen and sensitive.

2 ReactionsI use Aquaphor Healing Ointment on my dry, cracked and peeling feet and toes at least 2 times a day and always wear socks! This takes care of the peeling but not the pain.

2 ReactionsWelcome to the group! Are your feet cracked only on the outer edges or does the cracking involve interior of the foot pad (or the top?) Have you been diagnosed with diabetes, or any illness that can make the foot vulnerable to dryness or infection? I would check with your MD or a reputable Podiatrist for diagnosis (also for the swelling) and treatment IF you are vulnerable to infection. If not, then these methods below have helped me tremendously.
Both of my feet used to crack badly on the outer edges with bleeding particularly at the heels, at the edge of the ball of my feet and on the opposite outer edge. And the end of the big toes. I was told that it was because I wear open sandals daily and open slippers; though when I walk for exercise 3-5 miles per day, I wear a closed walking shoe with socks. The podiatrist told me to wash/scrub feet thoroughly daily and afterwards, to apply a lubricating cream such as Aquaphor or brands with urea and salicylic acid like Okeefes, Ebanel, and many others. They come in creams (which I find more moist and penetrating) and you can apply for daytime and/or before bedtime wearing socks to bed for best results. I find the cream for me works better than the roll-on "sticks" though the sticks are handy for the car and travel. He also recommended Diabetic socks (many brands--I prefer "Doctor's Choice" brand though Dr. Scholl's is more popular). I do not have diabetes but have totally switched to these socks due to comfort on the foot and on the ankle and calf as they are less "binding" than regular socks. I feel that they breathe better and thus my foot feels lets sweaty and irritated especially during exercise. My Internal medicine MD recommended Aquaphor for dry cracked hands, which also works well. I hope you will find methods that help your feet heal and feel better!

1 ReactionThank you. It was a podiatrist who suggested Aquaphor. I am diabetic for 35 years so know most of the drills connected. P. N. just showed up a few years ago. Pregabalin, acupuncture, and many other treatments have been tried without success. I did get some relief from Nerve Control 911 but it stopped working. Now trying Nerve Flow without much luck. Next on my try list is Neuro Salt. I’ll post results. 😊 Yes, I’m a glutton for punishment!😂

3 Reactions@alicebrown thank you for sharing your experiences. I 'm sorry the pain isn't being mitigated and hope the Neuro salt (and/or trials with other new treatments) will provide better relief. Thank you for any updates, and take good care!
