Any early 50’s patients with advanced Osteo using Tymlos?

Posted by sandrao13 @sandrao13, Jan 6 11:57am

I have been using 80mcg of Tymlos in the past 8 months, and still feel the side effects 😖, ear ringing, heart palpitations, nausea, can’t wait to finish treatment!.
How is your experience using Tymlos, have you done something different to lessen the side effects?
Also, how have your results been? Is there a big improvement in bone health?
thank you!

Sandrao13,
I'm so sorry to hear about what you're experiencing on Tymlos.
This group is full of welcoming people, with a wealth of experience, and knowledge to share.
I'm 53, and have learned a ton since I joined last October. I haven't used Tymlos myself, though I would like to.
For someone with OP who is relatively young, this anabolic drug is a very promising starting point for regaining some bone density especially if you're concerned about managing side-effects. It's the only bone-building drug that allows you to control the dosing.
There's loads of shared recent experiences regarding this scattered throughout the conversations in this support group. Member @windyshores shares a lot about her experiences managing side-effects and her impressive gains using Tymlos.

Dr. R. Keith McCormick is the author of Great Bones which is the go-to book for many of us here for understanding OP, OP treatments, tests, nutrition, etc.
Dr. McCormick has done many interviews that are available on YouTube and even offers remote consultations (https://www.osteonaturals.com/consult-osteonaturals). One of his interviews is specifically on "Osteoporosis Medications: Pros and Cons". I highly recommend it. Here's the link: https://youtu.be/eZIgvcM9Ous?si=TNP_VUYY-jRz6mqN

@sandrao13 you could try going down to a half dose (4 clicks of the pen) and see how you do. That can be a therapeutic dose for some though of course higher may be better (I don't think anyone knows!). Once you feel side effects are tolerable with that you could try to go up one click. I did two years and only did a full dose maybe 3 times. I started with two clicks and got up to 6 or 7. (It varied with what I had to do that day). I had excellent gains including 20% in spine and 9% in hip, going from severe to borderline in spine- not at full dose.

Other things: try a different time of day. I switched to morning and to my surprise did better. I learned to get active rather than lie around after the shot. Everyone is different. Hydrate well before the shot and maybe have some salty crackers- that will help blood pressure stay up. I bought a blood pressure cuff to monitor that. Hoping your experience can improve. For me it was the gentlest drug but none of them are a picnic. Then again fractures can be worse (I have a few)!
