Any contra indications taking thioctic acid with MCAS?

Posted by pennycurious1 @pennycurious1, 3 days ago

As a new medication trial my doctor recently prescribed me thioctic acid (seems to be equivalent with ALA) to help with my neuropathy pain although I also have MCAS.

I have read warnings about being careful to use thioctic acid with MCAS since it can worsen symptoms.

Any experience with thioctic acid?

@md11 mentioned having MCAS and ALA in another discussion here - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/comment/1254879/, and may have some experience to share with you.

While you wait for other members to respond, the MAST Cell Action site has some information on supplements but doesn't mention lipoic acid. It does have a lot information that might be helpful if you haven't already seen it - https://www.mastcellaction.org/supplements-and-mcas.
