Anal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Posted by zobesca @zobesca, Feb 22, 2023

Has anybody with squamous cell carcinoma on the inside of your body had it metastasize? I 'just started immunotherapy and wondering if anybody else has followed this path.

They say it’s good it’s Mets and not a new primary. Meh.

Hello @shellejo. I have metastatic SCC but origin was in my ear canal. Over 12 years now I have had 2 lung mets and a subQ SCC removed surgically. The last met to my kidney and surrounding lymph nodes in 2020 has been treated by an immunotherapy drug, Cemiplimab. It took over a year but all signs of mets are gone. I have been off of it for almost a year now and still clear on last scan in February. There were side effects but it was quite tolerable. There are new immunotherapies being approved regularly and we just need to keep after our cancers as these new treatments become available. Since mine is Head and Neck, I am not knowledgable about anal SCC treatments but just wanted to give you a bit of hope. Has your medical team mentioned an Immunotherapy?

@shellejo, I know that is little comfort. Metastasis sounds awful, but they know your cancer type and how it responds to treatment. That is helpful. Do you know what treatment is being suggested next?

I am 60 and just started carbo taxol last week. Dec 5 2023 diagnosed with poorly differentiated squamous cell with basaloid features. Pet and CT shows mediastinal nodes and bilateral pulmonary nodules. They biopsied one last week - so I’m now waiting. Chemo again mar 18 and apr 18 planned. Radiation planned as well. Most of the 3.5 cm mass was removed but margins were not clear. Kind of in limbo til biopsy results come in. Either Mets or new primary. Prayers for all here !

Hi @shellejo, I bet the waiting for the biopsy results has been really hard. Have you an update yet? How are you doing?

i am being treated for squamous cell anal cancer stage 3
so far it is a walk in the park compared to the pressure pain i had before treatment
i am doing proton radiation at the only cancer center that offers this type of radiation.
there are other proton centers, but none that will treat anal cancer with it.
it is the california proton center in san diego.
burns are not bad. i have 6 more treatments. i don't even take pain medicaion.
i know we are all different, and i did get loose bowls for a while due to chemo, but other than that i am doing great.
hope this helps with your decision. wish you luck
