Anal fissures after bowel resection. Relief strategies?

I have been diagnosed with anal fissures after a lower bowel resection for a cancerous tumor. It’s very painful and I’m looking for advice for managing this condition. (Only one week after surgery.)

I used 5% lidocaine and pure coconut oil. Sounds too easy, but worked for me.

Thanks! This isn’t an issue addressed by my surgeons. Also mixed messages about what to eat.

Botox shots are what finally helped me after chemo/radiation.
The various ointments I was given did not heal it until the surgeon did the Botox shots.
Nitroglycerin, lidocaine/tetracaine, lidocaine/hydrocortisone/diltiazem/zinc, rectal rockets (roughly same ingredients as cream) etc

@rosalita54 Did you have a low anterior resection? Meaning a resection of your rectum. Or did you have a colon resection? The difference makes a huge difference as to what to eat.

I had a colon resection. The doc told me the problem was probably tiny tears where the reattached the rectum with sutures — sort of like tiny papercuts 🙂

Mine are on the outside of the anus - not deep inside.

I use (as needed) a hemorrhoid cream which has 14.5% glycerine, phenylephrine-HCL 0.25%, pramoxine-HCL 1%, aloe and Vitamin E. Much less stinky/messy than a hemorrhoid ointment.

In my LARS group, some people recommend lidocaine for the anal fissures or the feeling of passing shards. Some use Calmoseptine. Some combine both, first the lidocaine, then once absorbed, the calmoseptine. Some use Recticare or Ihle's paste. One person mentions mixing CBD oil into CeraVe cream.

For the internal anastomosis, some use CBD oil or edibles.

Thanks! I have a cream with lidocaine which helps. I’m waiting for a marijuana medical consult for the CBD oil.
