Anabolic Osteoporosis Drugs
I am female, 56 and have -3.2 DXA in my spine. My insurance (Aetna) wants me on Prolia. My rheumatologist says I’m way too young and wants me on Evenity. Aetna declined it but have approved Tymlos. Aetna are now pulling out of Florida, so come Jan 1, I will have new insurance (probably Florida Blue). QUESTIONS 1) If I start Tymlos now, should I do the full two years, then try to transition to Evenity? 2) since Evenity does better than Tymlos in clinical trials, should I wait until January and try to get approved for Evenity? 3) I’m about 10 years post menopause. Is HRT an option for me?

@gravity3, windyshores was so much fun. I'm always quoting her.
@gently
I always enjoy your posts too.
@gently thank you so much for this great advice. I shall most definitely try it. I take my Tymlos at night so that I can sleep through the headache. But when I wake up it’s still present. The morning injection did not work for me due to being unable to work after the shot. I will try your methods. Thank you.
Wow big decisions. January isn’t that far off, if you prefer to wait for Evenity. I definitely agree with you are too young for Prolia. I would think you are a candidate for BHRT at 56 years old, especially since you are just on the cusp of the supposed 10 year post menopausal cutoff. Having said that, it won’t improve your bone density like Evenity, Tymlos or Forteo. A -3.2 spine is pretty low and if you feel comfortable taking an anabolic that may be the best long term route. I wonder if you can start BHRT now and stay on it while you are on an anabolic??
I, personally , am on the Canadian version of Forteo. I’ll be off it in 6 months (I’m doing the full 2 years) and am anxious to see my results. My spine was around -3.2 when I started.
taraneh64, you're very welcome. Best to skip the tea and coffee at night, especially if you are still having a little dizziness. Some, here on connect, take a lower dose of Tymlos by counting the clicks as they turn the dial. They gradually advance the dose to allow their bodies to adjust, and stop at whatever level is comfortable. Even at lower doses they have strong gain on dexa. We often speculate that the doses might be too high for our body weight. Did the back pain stop.
@gently I think you may be right. I'm 5-11, 175 pounds. Maybe someone else is 5-3, 130 pounds. We're both taking the full dose. It seems like it could be an issue, right?
@taraneh64
I am currently taking generic teriparatide, after about five months of tymlos. I loved tymlos, but our new insurance company didn’t—wouldn’t pay for it but would the generic forteo. Initially on tymlos I experienced mostly the racing heart and mild dizziness, very briefly. It helped a lot when I started drinking a bit of zero sugar Gatorade before injecting. After a while, I found it unnecessary. Best wishes on a solution that works for you!
