Ana test negative

I have rheumatoid arthritis for 20 years under control I also have hypothyroidism for 15 years under control. I have been sick with different illnesses for 6 months like sinus infections that would not go away with antibiotics massive headaches couldn't breathe I am so tired I'm in bed most of the time. I've had white tongue that will not go away we had the butterfly rash I've had a salty taste in my mouth that won't go away with dry mouth. I'm not saying that some of these are lupus related I'm just saying that these are some of the things that have been happening. What I have now is lethargy, butterfly rash joint pain I have had ulcers in the last 2 months and foggy head and I noticed last summer which I'm always inside I'm hardly outside that normally I if I'm out for a aalf an hour an hour in the sun I'm fine but I got a bad sunburn and felt very tired and sick. That was the only time. Did you get diagnosed with lupus with just n a n a test? Can you tell me other tests that I should be telling her to take? She said since my ANA test is negative then I don't have lupus. And maybe I don't I just need a diagnosis. I just want to know what's wrong with me. Thank you

Antibodies are temperamental and often difficult to detect. One time they are there then the next time not. If they do a fluorescent antibody test which is the traditional test it is very tech dependent, sadly! It’s a subjective test and varies from tech to tech…some are more conservative when reading than others and sometimes for whatever reason they just don’t show up. I used to be a tech and did the test. There are other methods and tests that can be done sometime the antibodies are there and sometimes not. It’s very frustrating. That where a good rheumatologist comes in to make the diagnosis. For example, I initially had very high antibodies for Sjogrens and ANCA by one method and all tests were negative by other methods. I had the symptoms and was treated for both. Then all was negative. A few months later my ANA was slightly positive for Sjogrens. I have a friend that has gone through this for years. Some times you are just sero-negative and why it takes so long for a diagnosis. The Lupus Foundation has a whole list of tests that can be done.
I hope this helps. Hang in there.

@synthiame no ANCA Vasculitis, Sjogrens, RA and sarcoidosis. I am not claiming anything else! I have a friend with lupus and RA and her labs are usually wonky…

I had chronic sinusitis always having infections as well as infection in my tonsils and got tired of trying to to fight it so finally got rhinoplasty to clear nasal passages and polyps they found along with a tonsillectomy since it’s a connected . Best decision ever.

ANA Tests are not accurate, you need to have them do a Western Blot test and find out if you have any and which strains of the Lyme disease if you have had the line for a while, it should show if there’s anything still there because the antibiotics don’t work on most of the strains of Lyme. Quinine will eradicate it. You just can’t be taking certain other medication’s while taking quinine and suggest you see a naturalist doctor because a doctor that practices western meds will not give you quinine most likely or research it yourself if possible.
