Intravenous (IV) Alpha Lipoic Acid
I'm not talking about oral supplements. Instead, has anyone had experience with IV infusions of ALA? Would love to know protocol and results. I start IV ALA in 2 weeks.

Hello @danye1, Welcome to Connect. I do take na-R-ALA supplements but was not familiar with the intravenous ALA treatment. I did a search on Connect and see that @kbirchem and @cummings3 have posted about IV infusions of ALA and may have some experiences to share with you.
I did find some articles that discuss the treatment which might be helpful.
"Intravenous (IV) ALA can improve neuropathy symptoms when administered for three weeks, but symptom improvement with oral ALA is not clinically significant. (Strength of Recommendation: B, based on two meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials [RCTs].) There is no evidence evaluating long-term treatment."

"In conclusion, intravenous treatment with alpha-lipoic acid (600 mg/day) over 3 weeks is safe and effective in reducing symptoms of diabetic peripheral..."

Will you provide an update on your results?
Hello @danye1, can you please let me know where you going to have IV ALA? Didn't know they're offering this somewhere. I'm using R-ALA, it definitely helps! And acetyl L carnitine too. Taking together usually. Please let us know your results! Hope it'll help you!
I found a place in Virginia that offers it, but it’s not part of a chain or regional health system. I googled and discovered a number of providers of the service in different areas of the country.
Is your neuropathy idiopathic or diabetic neuropathy?
I’ve just started R-Alpha Lipoic Acid. Any reason why you added acetyl L carnitine?
My holistic doctor recommends that for neuropathy.
I find, that it gives me energy and possibly all the other benefits. I take it with ALA mornings and afternoons, not evenings, it can make you awake!
If I'm in pain, I take only ALA little after dinner. Sometimes ALA gives me heartburn, then I have chewing gum, lollie, or little soda bicarbonate in water.
But it'll pass, that's only if it's bad.
I take B complex and magnesium and NAC , but not every day.
ALA and acetyl I need every day, tried to stop and pain was much worse .
Hope it'll help you!🤞👍😊
