Allergic reaction to TKR
Had a TLKR coming up on 7 years, have never been happy with it.
Keep telling my Doctor and he has done X-ray a couple of times and keeps saying it looks good, but it does not feel good, swells when I am on my feet a lot, and gets a tight band feeling around it. Well yesterday and today I have broke out in hives on that knee alone, could this be a result of metal allergy ? I have been very fatigued and short of breath for sometime, could this be a result? Trying to get an appointment with my orthopedic doctor to see if some allergy test could be done to determine if this is the problem. Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes-ask for metal allergy testing. I saw a great doc at Rothman clinic in Philly. He gave me a prescription and website to order testing from-$600 out of pocket. It was a blood test. Sure enough, I had 2 metal allergies.
Sometimes it’s not the knee itself, but the hardware used to keep it in place.
Hope you get to the bottom of it!
I am about a year past my bilateral hip replacement. A few months after surgery I started developing a rash that has now spread over my thighs, trunk and forearms. Doctors insist it is something that I am ingesting. I am 70 years old and eat the same things I always have. I wonder about metallosis. My doctor won’t do testing. I have asked to be referred to a dermatologist.
