Alcohol after RARP
I am 3 mo post RARP. Recovery has been about as advertised. I have returned to normal and full activity. My "junk" is still not 100%, but seems to be improving. Very minor leakage, more like dribbling after urinating. Erections are ok, but orgasms are almost non-existent (I get hard and excited, but then poof, it goes away). My question is about alcohol. I do consume most days, and it seems to really weaken the bladder control. In a social setting or at a ball game, etc, I seem to squirt/leak with every laugh or loud cheer, etc. Very annoying, especially when I am pretty much continent at all other times. In this post RARP era of my life (65 y/o), I should probably point out that a good two beer piss like a race horse is about the best thing since surgery. Going back for 90 f/u next week with urologist. Is this the type stuff to talk about with him? Thx!

If you want to continue drinking and have this problem with incontinence while doing it, get yourself a clamp. The Wiesner Clamp works quite well and will prevent Most leakage (might dribble a little). You do have to move it every couple of hours to a different spot, but you have to go pee every couple of hours anyway.
I use one whenever I go out for extended period of time

4 ReactionsI was 70 when I had RARP in 6/2024. At 3 months I was still figuring out the new normal as regards urination. Continent, but occasional minor releases. I do think alcohol was one of the things that was a bit of a challenge, although anything that went through me quickly could set me up for an inadvertent release. I was a lot better after about 6 months. I don't know for sure, but I do believe Kegals helped me. I also experienced poor erections (maybe 70% firmness) that also didn't last long when I was at 3 months. Plus my sensitivity just wasn't there yet. I'm happy to report that all improved until by 15 months I was fully back to normal (firmness, sensitivity, duration). For most of us it takes a while for the nerves to wake up and then recover. I don't know how much it helped (although I think it did), but I did exercise, do Kegals, good diet, vitamins & magnesium, and penile rehab to try to assist my recovery. But along the way there were plenty of times I wondered if I'd ever get back to full normal. As far as what to discuss with your doctor, I'd suggest discussing it all. I learned to make a list or otherwise I'd forget to mention something. Best wishes.
