Aimovig for Migraine Prevention Anyone?
Precious Folks, I am having a time with migraines. The Neurologist
wants me to try Aimovig injection monthly which is a migraine
preventative. It is a monoclonal antibody to help with migraines.
Has anyone had success with this? I am a sensitive "Nellie" and tend
to react to everything.
Thank you. Blessings & Prayers.....

Is your neurologist aware of your general sensitivity to medications? You might want to talk to your pharmacist about potential medication interactions if you talk other medications too.
Sorry about your migraines!
I have been battling chronic migraines ever since my stage IV radiation and chemotherapy 8 1/2 years ago.
I was on Sumatriptan until I turned 60 and triptans can cause stroke at age 60+.
The other oral meds are too expensive so I don’t take any.
I get Botox injections every 3 months but it took a year to help and then about year 2 it stopped helping. I now get the injections in the neck and it brought my pain from a constant 10 to a 7 for 2 months but my 3rd month has been rough. I get my second round to the neck next month so I’m hoping it will help again?
Keep me updated on your injections, I will ask my PA about that next month!

Colleen, Thank you so much. Yes, my Neurologist is aware of my meds and so is my
pharmacist.

Have you tried anything else for migraines? My son is 15 and has migraines that start with visual aura.
His pediatric neurologist suggested he try taking magnesium and omega 3 supplements and drink a good amount of water with electrolytes. If he gets aura, he is supposed to take Tylenol or Motrin/Nsaid right away before the pain and nausea/vomiting sets in to try to head the pain off and reduce symptoms. This has worked for my son. He hasn’t had a significant migraine since he started this a couple months ago.
I've used Aimovig before and I thought it was effective. But, It gave me constipation, so I quit and switched to Ajovy and and/or Vyepti. They have no side effects, at least for me.
dlydailyhope, I am taking magnesium and Omega 3 but not drinking electrolytes. I cannot take
Advil or Motrin (NSAIDS), but take Tylenol. I will try adding electrolytes to my water. Thank you for this and
I pray your son continues to do well.
I am on my third month of Aimovig injections. If you have someone else give them to you the sting only lasts for a minute or so. I am taking the Aimovig in conjunction with cranial nerve block injections (they are not for the weak). The combination has brought my headaches down from 7-10 to 2-5 (in half). I still get eye pulling, brain fog, fuzzy vision and some balance issues. Yet, at half the headache level this seems much more manageable. My tumor is inoperable and not subject to radiation since it is in a vein and the risk of a bleed is too dangerous. So for now I am pleased to have some relief and hope to get back to having more quality of life.

I’ve been using Aimovig for over a year now, and my migraines have significantly decreased. I’d say I have 75% fewer than before! I know some people have constipation as a side effect, but I haven’t had that problem.
