After Esphogeal surgery my husband is not urinating

Posted by dorenemonchil @dorenemonchil, Feb 16 2:50pm

2 weeks ago my husband has an esphogeal tumor removed. He went through chemo and radiation before the surgery. After surgery he had a catheter in place . They removed it twice in the hospitial but had to put it back in because he wasn't urinating om his own . They released him from the hospitial with a catheter. He's anyone experienced this and what can be done to help.

@dorenemonchil, how is your husband doing? Was he able to have the catheter removed and urinate on his own?

Yes it is out . He does take Flomax previous to surgery and he still has some issue.

He is for two days now without the catheter and is able to urinate. He went to a urologist and they sent him home with straight catheter to do himself when he felt his bladder was full. Thankfully he did not have to do catheter himself very long. . There are other issues that we found out after meeting with his oncologists this past week . We are to meet with the surgeon that removed his tumor on February 27.

Need much more info... how old is he? Did he have any issues peeing (or pooping) prior to cancer, or during his treatments? How's his prostate? Has he been on meds for this... like Flomax?

How bad did it hurt when they removed his catheter the first time? Was it like peeing razor blades... if he could even pee at all? Any kidney issues going in... bladder issues? But if they sent him home... guessing they're not to worried, but they will be seeing him once a week for awhile anyhow. But usually they don't let you go home until you can do the basics... pee, poop, walk half decently, swallow liquids, etc.

Is he on a J tube? Getting plenty of liquids?
