Advice on IUD pain/cramping??
I've had my Mirena IUD for about 5ish years now. It's working well in general but I have been having some horrible pain monthly on it the entire time.
At first it was severe pain level 8/9 cramps. These were every day for a about a week during what I thought was my period time. I kept asking questions but every doctor just said to wait and that they'd go away. Well they did. They have slowly lessened and mostly gone away (as in I get them maybe once in a couple months). I did get my IUD checked out with an ultrasound and it's in place, and the found nothing out of the ordinary at the time, this was about a few months ago. They also told me it was "normal" to get cramps.
Now however I'm getting what I can only imagine is ovulation pain. It's typically on my right side. It radiates to my back. It's frankly miserable because any little movement of my torso makes it worse. At the time I got the ultrasound the "ovulation pains" had just started and were mild and the doctor said they were "normal." But now it's every month for a day or so, at about a 7 level. And it's just getting to me because how can this much pain be normal? I feel like there's more to it.
I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this too and maybe has some advice on what to do??

I had a Mirena iud without problems. But it sounds like it might not be the right fit for you. At five years you’ve certainly given it a good shot
If the iud is causing this kind of distress and discomfort, perhaps it is not the right birth control method for you. Quality of life matters.
I unfortunately understand this. I had a horrible time with cramping. The doctor would not remove it because it was expensive. I developed intracranial hypertension and went to a different doctor to pull it out. I bled for the entire 2 years I was on it. Doctor had some wacky idea of taking ibuprofen tons of it for 2 weeks to stop it. She would not send me to obgyn. I ended up getting an endometrial ablation which worked and I feel so much better and zero periods. Apparently they don’t work well.
I so hope you get better!
