ADHD and PTSD forum?

Posted by 2026 @2026, Feb 22 6:20pm

I am 60 yrs old and have recently been diagnosed with ADHD due to PTSD. The events of my life have been beyond stressful as everything in my life changed. I would like to connect with others that have similar experiences of challenges at work. I need to approach my boss for accommodation because I get confused, have memory loss, and have difficulty doing everything I need to get done. I am in healthcare and because I am now willing to accept my diagnosis, I have made myself checklists to help me keep track. And I just got a work Dayplanner to help me organize. I have been in healthcare 39 years and have never had any issues with what I experience now. Is there anyone out there that is in a similar situation? I feel completely isolated and my 2 colleagues notice my cognitive issues and I think one of them is documenting… I will speak with my boss Monday.

I am out there & experiencing cognitive issues from 4 TBI’s I’ve had, just letting you know you’re not alone. I had to step away from my IT job that I absolutely loved, great pay, people, & atmosphere! That’s great your aware & trying new pathways to keep task. Kart-Horse. Well done. Can’t control what others do think or say. Everything works until it doesn’t. DBT therapy was a great tool for me to reorganize & feel confident again. Good Luck. Sauna & heat block proteins & fasting along with the diet change is absolutely amazing! Apologize the sauna was after thought no correction for someone who may understand just that. Okay good luck!

Awww thank you so much for your reply. Yes I am intermittent fasting! I am sorry to hear of your life transitions in order to apply self care.. your job sounded wonderful. I wish for you that you either have found another wonderful or on a search for one. Thank you for reminding me that we cannot control what others do think or say. Tis true. And I just ‘sat’ for a little and realized that no matter what happens to me and my job, it will be doable. Right now it’s scary, and it’s doable. I am struck with the number of TBIs… I work in neuro.. 1 TBI is one thing but I am sorry to hear of the 4 you experienced. Your execution of your thoughts is great. Thank you again.

Btw. How do I decrease heat shock proteins? Just not get stressed? Anxiety and L-Reuteri probiotic. I don’t know how much to take and it is hard to find a doc that knows but it significantly calms me down - it decreases cortisol… also: red light therapy helmet. Looking into it now.

Oh boy I can relate.. ive had trauma after trauma that resulted in me having to live in different situations just to have a place to be .. I was a nurse for 30+ yrs .. finally got on SSDI about 4 -5 yrs ago for treatment resistive major depression disorder that ive had since i was a child.. i got diagnosed with ADHD in my early 40s maybe .. im 59 now ... I also have PTSD.. tried everything you name it even Adderall which helped but I had to quit it as I have Steven's Johnson Sydrome.. and well id be here all day .. but I can relate the cognitive effects all this does .. its so hard because I know mine is trauma thats not resolved and then another etc... I get frozen with adhd anymore .. which I learned was adhd paralysis... and its keeping me from doing something very important i need to do .. and literally am struggling just putting this in a brief summary and just to put anything down.. but its important .. I hear your struggles and I to feel so alienated as I have no one to talk to .. but I just want you to know you're not alone .. I wish I could simply say .. deep breath ... go for a walk.. blah blah blah. .. you'll find strength.. I hope just knowing you're not alone .. im pulling for you at least in my thoughts
