Additional tests prediabetic
I am participating in a research study and had a glucose tolerance test. They sent me the results and it puts me in the pre-diabetic category. I emailed the results to my primary doctor and will schedule an appointment with her. What additional tests should i expect to have done? I have never had an A1c test. Should i ask about getting a cortisol level test?

@seapen, I'm happy for you and the excellent results you've achieved. Stay the course...and keep up the good work! Wishing you all the best. 👏👏👏
When I was 1st diagnosed I wanted to stay off meds-and did for 7 yrs by watching what I ate and noting what had increased my numbers. I also took a walk after every meal (small plate helps too).
Diabetes is progressive and when I could no longer keep blood sugar numbers low, I took medication and after30 yrs I now take pills and insulin injections, as well as Ozempic. However my A1c stays below 7 and drs are pleased. A game changer for me was when I got a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) which alerts me to highs/ lows so I can react by taking a walk to lower or eat food to raise numbers. One more suggestion for you- google “TCOYD” and read about and watch their videos… this organization is called Taking Care Of Your Diabetes. Best of health, Bette
Thank you for your encouragement. I have just been diagnosed with stage 3 chronic kidney disease which is related to diabetes. And now osteoporosis in my hip. I have been vety healthy all my life until now. This is very depressing...oh yes, I also have depression. Ugh!
@seapen, sorry to hear of your recent diagnoses. The disciplines you've developed for yourself will be helpful in managing and slowing the progression of these conditions, along with whatever treatments your doctors prescribe for you. I remember when I was diagnosed with stage 3 ckd and, yes, the news was depressing for me, as well. But I can tell you that by following the things I mentioned above and trying to keep a positive attitude will go a long way in helping you to live as normal a life as possible. I lived a full and normal life for years with kidney disease, enjoying all of the things I had always enjoyed. i know it is probably a little tougher for you since you had been healthy all your life and this is all so new to you. But be encouraged...keep your head up...and like I said before...stay the course. I believe you'll do very well because you have paid attention to your health and have kept yourself in good shape. That goes a long way in successfully dealing with your health issues. All of your friends here on Connect support you and are wishing you the very best. If you have questions or need encouragement or just need to lean on someone, just reach out to any of us here on this thread. We've all gone through or are going through what you're going through right now...and we're all here for you. Meanwhile, continue to take good care of yourself!
