Has anyone tried acupuncture for neuropathy?
I was just wondering if anyone has tried acupuncture for neuropathy. The balls of my feet and toes on both feet are affected. It’s no longer covered on my insurance plan so I have to pay out of pocket for the treatments. I was told I would need about 9 or 10. It would cost me about $1000. I’d like to hear if anyone has had success with this type of treatment. Thanks, Nancy Banks.

Thanks for your response. I’m aware it’s only temporary, but there are times I’m grateful for that …. and willing to pay out of pocket. I’ve noticed that a couple of hospitals near me have acupuncturists practicing. Success over centuries should be worthy of consideration for insurance coverage. It might actually save them money in certain circumstances. The health industries need to be more open to non pharmaceutical solutions.
I agree. It is an ancient medical practice. There is nothing wrong with looking for solutions to symptoms where you can. My insurance covers 12 visits a year with a copay, so I am fortunate.
I’m going to double check my coverage now!
When i went to physical therapy I got dry needle treatments in my hips. It was great but temporary.
All acupuncturists are not created equal. I have a Doctor from China whose technique is not gentle. When he hits a nerve you know it! But, still it’s only a temporary fix.
I had an excellent practitioner however I had a needle in my big toe which caused pain for several weeks. I know there are conditions which seem to benefit from acupuncture but I don't need any further feelings of needles in my lower extremities.
It’s the peroneal nerve which is my problem so can’t cut as a motor nerve. I have acupuncture periodically when my pain has been intense and it helps me. She gently rubs the nerve up & down with her hands first and then she applies the acupuncture needles. In for about 10 mins I think
Thank you.

I have chemo-induced neuropathy in both hands and feet. I got absolutely no relief from the common neuropathy medications like gabapentin and lyrica. I subsequently tried multiple acupuncture treatments and also had absolutely no relief. Previously I was skeptical of acupuncture therapy, however while receiving the acupuncture treatments, I did receive improvement in other health related aspects. Much improved sleep and other relieving aspects. I would say that the treatment is absolutely worth trying.
Thanks for your feedback!
