Ablation for lower back pain L4-5 S1
I'm scheduled for ablation for my lower back L4-5 S1. I have severe spinal stenosis. I'm in constant pain hurts to stand and put weight on my left leg. My left side is the worst. Just wondering others experience with this procedure. The nerve block to determine the area of pain I just about flew off the table. I'm 75 yrs of age.

I've had many rfa procedures....relief doesn't last long
Dealing with spinal stenosis too. Had PT, several injections, an ablation, now scheduled to have the MILD and Disc FX procedure done in March. The other would help for sometimes a few days some a few months but now pain just getting worse on my right side. I’m hoping and praying these procedures will give me some relief. It’s been hard to get any information from people that has had them done. 🤷🏼♀️
melhen, I don't know anyone who has had either procedure (so I'm no help), but I'm hoping you'll have success and report back. I never trust the testimonials from the ads and you've probably already seen them, but https://www.elliquence.com/education/patients/disc-fx-overview/
There was a procedure called nucleoplasty where they used a similar probe only with radiofrequency, so it evaporated part part of the disc and that sucked the protruded part back in. Then they used thermal modulation to try and seal the herniation. It worked well for two years, but never returned to its previous pain level.
Best luck.

I have the spinal ablation ahead in March. After years of other types of pain relief they will give this a try. So I will be hopeful it works, also for you.
I have had RFA s done on T 2 - T 3 ~ T3 -T 4 ~ T4 -T 5 for years with mixed results. They do help for how long depends on you and how well the RFA was done. It dosn't always burn / kill the nerve. If it does and you get relife enjoy it while you can as it (the nerve will allways grow back) lasts between 1 month and 1 year.+ - Good luck! ! !
Didn't for me. Good luck
I had 6 rounds of injections, an ablation, the doctor also drilled a hole in the back bone and burned the nerve. Unfortunately nothing has worked for me. Hopefully it will work for you.
Ask about pain pump implant. My daughter was in severe pain due to 3 spinal fx from C2 to S1 and paratalysis with rod placement and secondary neuropathy. She had a surgical implant of a pain pump and no back pain now but still neurophathy. She is finally able to pull herself to stand with bar assist, so we get to start physical theray in March (3 yrs of severe pain has resoled so therapy is hopeful. Ask your pain Dr boit a surgical psin pump
They can test you to see if you respond before going through surgery. IUMC Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana. It has given her hope.
