Abdominal lumps, nerve shocks, numbness and back pain
M32 308lbs 5’9” diabetic
I am at my wits end trying to figure out what I have. For the past year I have been having hard painful lumps that I can feel under my skin in my abdominal area. Sometimes on the left side, sometimes on the right. I’d say they measure about half of an inch in diameter. They last anywhere from a few hours up to 3-4 days then go away only to come back again. At first it was only one or two at a time however in the past 2 months I’ve been getting more and more. At the moment I can count at least 7. They are under the skin so they are not visible, only felt when pressing around my belly. Since they have started to multiply I’ve had huge increase in back pain, testicular pain, and pain right under my left arm pit.
On top of this, for almost year I have been having all kinds of neurological issues such as body and face numbness, “electric” shocks throughout my body, migraines and dizziness.
I have had multiple trips to the ER where they’ll do blood tests such as liver function panels, lipase, and blood cell counts as well as urine tests. All coming back normal.
I have discussed this with my doctor. He didn’t seem too concerned about it. Said it may be hardened nerve endings but didn’t give me a cause or diagnosis. He prescribed me nortriptyline that I started taking, but after 3 days (one 10mg pill per day) my heart rate was skyrocketing so I stoped.
It may sound dramatic but it honestly feels like my nervous system is attacking me. Any insight would be helpful.

Hello. I’ve tried high and low to find any explanation for what’s goin on with my body with no luck. About a year ago I noticed a painful lump on my right upper abdominal area. It was less than an inch big and only painful when pressed. About 3 months ago more started showing up around my abdominal area both left and right. I would get flare ups where they started to become painful without pressing them, giving almost a cramp type of pain along with some back pain. Then yesterday I noticed that they are starting to spread to my chest. These are not painful yet, even when pressed. All of these lumps are not visible on the skin surface, no redness or bruising. the only way to know where they are is by pressing down and feeling them.
My doctor says they are hardened nerve endings by I’m not entirely convinced. Any insight would be appreciated.
@dlk1313 I would get a second opinion.
Hello @dlk1313, and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I understand why you are concerned, especially since you've seen increased pain in other areas of your body. If it were me, I would want to consult with a neurologist. Is your doctor you have been seeing a neurologist?
No, however I do have an upcoming appointment with a neurologist this coming week.
