I have been interested in reading about HRT therapy because it makes sense to me. What I would like to know is, would it be alright for someone who is 80 to take it?

Unfortunately, that is an unknown. I wish there were studies on long term use of HRT particularly since the hormones we use today are vastly different in their source and delivery system than the ones used in the WHI. Once that study was shut down, along with the general use of HRT, that was it, it was considered a closed case, done deal. The big takeaway from the WHI was that it increased breast cancer risk by 25% which sounds horribly scary. The reality is that the placebo group in the study had 4 cases of breast cancer per 1,000 participants and the HRT group had 5 cases per 1,000. One additional case per 1,000 is calculated at a 25% increased risk. The media ran with the 25% increased risk.
I just listened to a very interesting podcast with Peter Attia interviewing one of the authors of the study.

I took HRT for 15 yrs and developed breast cancer with no history in my family. I was diagnosed with osteopenia and recently osteoporosis. I have alway exercised regularly with plenty of weight bearing and took calcium, vitamin D, mag, vitamin K etc. My mother died at 69 and don’t know if she would have had osteoporosis.
I have concluded that HRT is not worth taking and does not combat bone loss.

May I ask what other supplements you take? I have bought many vitamins from Klair Labs and quite pleased.

The article linked below addresses some of the questions about post-breast cancer HRT and has links to other articles and research also looking at the issue. I don't have any informed opinion either way so am just posting these links for those who want to look at some further thinking.

I think that one can buy K2 supplements as a standalone but I use a bone formula that has calcium, D3, K2, and boron and other trace elements as well. It's called Alive! Bone Support calcium Max Absorption "with orchard fruits and garden vegetables as well." There are other formulas out there but I like this one because it was highly recommended and the calcium comes from red algae not animal by-products.

Thank you for your reply. :Connect" is great for swapping our ideas!
I will have a look to see what is available at a organic natural health food store. Our Canadian regulations are different than the US; but thanks for the tip.
Hope you are having a good day.

Yes, I take Vitamin D plus K2-7, Algaecal and Bone and Marrow. The Algaecal I order from Algaecal and the Bone and Marrow is from Ancestral Supplements - both online.
