8 weeks post op TKR , is exhaustion normal still
I’m 8 weeks post op TKR, and I was just inquiring if it’s normal to be exhausted still and just not feeling like myself yet ? This is my second TKR and don’t remember feeling so tired for so long. Katrina

I am at 14 weeks and starting to feel like myself today. Still pain and swelling but sleeping much better so fatigue is slowly fading
It is very normal to feel tired in the first few months. I’m 1 year out and I still get tired some days. It’s a very tough surgery to go through but we all will get there! Hang on and stay positive!
I’m almost 2 weeks out from TKR, & exhausted, as well as dizzy most of the time. Unfortunately I also have a large blood clot in my anterior thigh, which makes knee flexion extremely painful. Has anyone else experienced a blood clot in their thigh muscle after TKR?.
I am relieved to be reading this. It's five weeks past my TKR, and I am still so tired. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. Understanding that this might just be a part of the process is very helpful!
At 10.5 months I hit exhaustion every day around 4 pm. The TKR surgery is a MAJOR trauma to the body. Eat an anti-inflammatory diet and keep the vitamins and mineral supplements and amino acid supplements going for months afterwards. Take naps. Do deep breathing exercises. Protect your nighttime sleep environment to get high quality sleep. Stick to a routine bedtime. Skip parties for a while; they just wear you out. Best of luck to you.
If you ever get another, TNR, please look into the Nano Knee procedure available in California. After eight weeks out, I traveled to Croatia and the Adriatic area, climbing and walking miles and miles every day on my two month old knee with no problems. I have slight swelling because of all of the travel and walking and heat, but it is amazing how well I am doing. Much different than my tea and our 10 years ago. !
Blood clots can be dangerous if they travel. Have you
received a medication for that? What did your dr. say about it? It is a risk after TKR so I had a blood thinner for a couple of weeks but kept checking my leg.
Thank goodness I found this page. It is 3 months after my TKR and i'm still exhausted a lot of the time. For 2 years, my knee had been down to bone on bone, but I was doing the gel shots. Then a year ago I had a freak accident and ripped everything under the knee cap. I had to wait till all of that healed for surgery - but it didn't heal well and I ended up bowlegged in that leg. ( Which also had to be corrected during surgery)
I get comments from people about how long it's taking me to heal, and
it's pretty disheartening.
People can be so heartless .. only allow encouraging people near you ! I feel your discouragement but please think about last year , or last week . You have come so far by tiny steps .. I’m also talking to myself . Some days are just hard , but we are lucky to have gotten the medical care we have . Blessings
I'm not sure if there really is any "normal" recovery! If you've done much reading in this chat, you'll find everyone's experience is different. Some of us have other underlying conditions that hinder recovery, not to mention aging, differing conditions of the knee before the TKR, and different methods used during surgery! You are definitely older now than when you had the first knee done, and you may have been generally stronger when the first knee was done. At 16-months out, I am STILL having new little successes! Eight-weeks is nothing! I would be extremely impressed if you said you were already feeling like your old self! Part of it will depend on your condition before surgery. I was having trouble with stairs YEARS before my TKR, and I am just starting to take stairs normally. I think that is part muscle strength and part motor memory. Don't let anyone other than your physical therapist push you!
