77yo need 3 hip surgery on left hip

Posted by hippylife @hippylife, 2 days ago

After 2011 primary left hip joint replacement a revision was in 2017. 2026 need another revision on left hip due to rotating femor implant and cerclage ring compressing the pelvic floor causing bladder retention and foot numbness. Has anyone had this happen?

No. My left hip replacement was about six years ago and I have had no such problems.

Feces can happen no matter how good the surgeon BUT are you sure that you have the right surgeon?

@steveinarizona I had a well known professor that specialized in complex hip revisions surgery at OHSU . However the techniques used to remove the primary hip components are not long lasting. The cerclage metal ring used to hold the femur bone in place after osteotomy is well known to fail in 10 years . It’s been 9 years since the 2017 revision and my leg has rotated to the left visually seen and also compression on the nerve now experiencing numbness in my foot a pre curser to drop foot.

Sounds complex. Your OSHU Professor might be the best possible choice.

However, this would be your second revision. Before doing that I would want an independent review. You are in Ohio. Can you get to New Albany? There is a surgeon there that has excellent reports -- Dr. Keith Berend.

A second opinion, a second possible surgeon, would be my choice before undergoing a second revision.

The other alternative, if you can get in, would be to travel to Rochester MN for the Mayo Clinic.

@steveinarizona thank you . To address your post : I have had surgery at the largest university teaching hospital in the Pacific Northwest. (OHSU) Oregon Hospital State University. They are a huge health insurance conglomerate in the PNW . I have joined an independent health organization not in the OHSU network system to obtain an independent evaluation, the wait is 6-8 weeks. Also have periprosthetic particle disease from prosthetics leaching particles in and around the prosthetics in both hips extreme itching and huge issue on my immune system. As the pelvic floor compression from implant failure is a huge foot drop reference as every day experiencing numbness.
One day at a time…Right?
