50mm mass found in sigmoid colon
Started with blood in stool for a while. Took over a month to get a colonoscopy scheduled. After the procedure was told a large mass was found 50mm. Tomorrow we get the results of pathology. Could a mass this size not be cancer? Blood work came back normal. Is that a good sign? Panic is all I feel. Terrified.

Hi Maya, I have absolutely no idea but I can feel your anxiety. Everything in medical over two years into Covid, is still a waiting game. Try to stay positive. So many I know have you in their prayers…..blessings, Joanne
It is cancer. However the oncologist said even though it’s a larger size it doesn’t mean it’s spread and still thinks it could very well be stage 1. Tomorrow is ct scan to check for soread. I’m praying for a clear scan
A friend had a very similar experience as yours in 1999 but was Stage 2. She opted for minimal chemo after a successful operation and 23 years later she has had no recurrence! Hope this brings encouragement.
Hi @maya8238, I'm thinking of you and all the worrisome tests that you're going through. I'd like to put your mind at ease about a few things I learned when my dad was diagnosed with colorectal cancer.
Colorectal cancer grows very slowly. During the month that it took to get the colonoscopy, the tumor likely didn't grow in size significantly. Tumors typically grow from the inside the colon from a polyp forming a lump and only slowly work their way through the multiple layers of the colon. This article from the National Cancer Institute explains and illustrates things well.

So, it is quite possible that the tumor has not spread. Whatever the stage, you are taking care of it now and have a team on your side. Treatments are effective.
If you're comfortable doing so, we'll all be interested in hearing what you learn from tomorrow's CT scan. And, we're here if you just need to talk during the waiting times. They're the worst.
This is such reassurance! Thank you. I just had the cancer marker blood test and that all shows normal. I’m so hopeful that it was caught early. The oncologist said it looks like it grew outwardly but very possible not into the wall or tissue. I pray that’s true. Very uncertain times but I finally feel a little glimmer of hope. I’ll keep everyone posted. Thank you for the support and encouragement.
Yes this brings me a lot of hope. Anything positive is always helpful. My gastrointestinal doctor made it seem so gloomy but the oncologist gave me a whole new perspective
Ct scan results came in all clear! I pray that means it’s not a higher stage.
Maya, I'm throwing confetti. I'm sure @martin77 will thow some too.
That's fabulous news. Thanks for letting me know. Now onwards and get to dealing with that pesky tumor.
This is so sweet. Thank you!
Yes, a shower of confetti from me too. It sounds like it's been caught early.
