5 Months Post pituitary Surgery Healing
Hi. I am 5.5 months post pituitary surgery. Just had a scab removed. Just a tinge of bleeding but hurt for a while. For some reason I cannot take any NSAIDS or I get horrible head pain when walking. Takes at least two days to recover. ENT said all looks good at the surgery site. However, I could still be healing on the inside. I'm not sure how to help the process. Wondering if anyone has experienced this? Wondering if I should go back to the no nose blowing. I do have serous fluid at the pituitary surgical site but ENT said neurosurgeon has to speak to that, but I don't see him till my one-year mark. I still cannot do any heavy lifting. I have a good team but not understanding how to help myself heal.

5 months is not really that long time after surgery.
You probably should stay away from blowing your nose until you know what’s happening at the surgical site.
It would be a good idea to contact the neurosurgeon regarding the serous fluid.
My daughter had pituitary surgery years ago and I remember hearing about spinal fluid leaks. Waiting until your one year visit is too long in this case. Best to be on the safe side.

3 ReactionsThank you for the feedback. I spoke to ENT and they said surgical site looks good but will heal again after removal of scab. Agreed! No nose blowing. No walking up hills and back to post surgery care I think. Not sure why when I take an nsaid I get such horrible pain when moving. I have good doctors. Thanks for reminding me 5.5 months is not that long after.

You should have some sort of paperwork describing follow up care, do’s & dont’s, NSAID use, what possible complications / problems to be aware of, when (who & how) to contact your provider…. Etc. Could you contact that person and tell them that you need some clarification about your surgery after care?
