Posted by mayouseraq @mayouseraq, Jun 6 2:38am

The patient (a relative) is a white 42-year-old female (weight: 116 lb, height: 5 ft and 0.24 inches) diagnosed with a hydatid mole pregnancy. Below are some of her test results and symptoms that she has had for the past few weeks:

Echocardiogram: Normal

Blood Test: Low platelets and hemoglobin deficiency (low HGB, HCT, and RBC)

Immunology Test: Elevated levels of HE4 and ROMA

Inflammation Markers: No signs of inflammation

Blood Chemistry: Slightly elevated levels of SGOT and LDH

Urinalysis: Renal issue indicated by a small amount of protein in the urine; structurally, the kidneys appear normal

Abdominal Ultrasound: Large mass extending from the pelvis to the upper abdomen and small polyps on the gallbladder

MRI: Homogeneous large mass inside the uterus with a grape cluster appearance

Physical Exam: Slight swelling in the feet

Additional Symptoms: Feelings of belching, bloating, and nausea

General Health: Non-smoker (and no drugs), does not drink alcohol, has no other preexisting conditions, and takes no medications.

The patient is scheduled for surgery to remove the hydatid mole in two days.

I would like your assessment of these symptoms and the overall condition of this patient. Are there any concerning findings or issues that need to be addressed before the surgery?

Welcome to Mayo Connect. Your relative must be devastated by the news. Mayo Connect is a place to share experiences and support others, but we do not give out medical advice. We are patients or caregivers of patients and not medical professionals.

If your relative has any concerns about any conditions prior to surgery, she needs to discuss with her provider or seek a 2nd opinion.

Does your relative have a good support system to help her?

Thank you for your thoughtful response. She is indeed concerned about her condition. She has a strong support system and has taken all possible steps within her capacity to address any concerns before the upcoming procedure. However, given the upcoming surgery, I wanted to ensure that we have not overlooked any necessary tests or evaluations that should be conducted beforehand.

@mayouseraq. I'd like to add my welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. We are a community who support one another through sharing our own experiences. Mayo Clinic Connect does not have medical providers who can offer medical opinions.

I'm unfamiliar with Hydatid Mole Pregnancy and so I read up on this. It is indeed a rare type of pregnancy that is concerning.

You indicated that your relative is scheduled for surgery in two days. So her surgery is coming up quickly. If your relative is interested in another medical opinion she can self-refer or her medical provider can refer her to Mayo Clinic. Here is the link to request an appointment:
