11 weeks post op tkr

Posted by cyndi2013 @cyndi2013, 1 day ago

I am 11 weeks post op tkr and still battling stiffness. I can do my exercises and stretches but still have the stiffness.
When I cook dinner, my knee gets tighter the longer I am standing in the kitchen. I am some discouraged 😞.
Anyone else having this same issue?

G'day from Oz. My first post! Firstly, for other readers who are taking laxatives, i never needed them as I'd have every morning a largish bowl of All-Bran, bran flakes and two or three dryed figs. Did the trick.
Now, I had a partial and a tkr 12 weeks ago tomorrow and have to work hard to stay positive. They are both the same in terms of recovery, pain and ROM ( luckily my ROM is very good - years of yoga maybe! ).
At the hospital I thought; whats the fuss, this is a piece of cake. Back at home with no where near enough meds. The pain, mobility etc was terrible.
I believe my online PT ( 6 weeks ) was just too strong and hindered my recovery ( check out ' bonesamart. org ' ). My friend had a tkr ( albeit only one ) and her surgeon said no PT at all other than gradual walking and pool, and now she's pain free and walking well. So i decided to follow suit and my pain level did drop a bit and my walking improved.
So, at 12 weeks I'm still in pain, ( and taking Targin, panadol ) especially, like you, when just standing still. I started more PT, especially light weight leg lifts, a few days ago and two days later was agony again, so......no more PT again. Today, better again.
I'm going to walk for 20 minutes three times a day increasing every few days and will post again on my progress
Another person said her tkr was the worse thing thats ever happened to her and her pain did not subside for 4 months and then gradually got better and now, after 2 years she thinks it great.
Anyway Cindy, non of this is probably much help other than to boost your confidence in that things will improve and to remind you that everybody is different.
Some bloke told me last night he had a bilateral tkr and had very little pain at all - git!!
