1 or 2 months no nausea and then boom...nausea for couple days?

Posted by mikejjb123 @mikejjb123, Dec 21, 2025

I have had GERD and UC for years. Would have nausea for months at a time. Maybe ok for a couple days. All of a sudden going for months with no nausea and then a couple days of nausea. Things completely reversed as I eat and drink anything. Ideas? Thanks and happy holidays.

I had a similar condition with acid reflux where I would only have nausea, which is likely a more pronounced form of reflux. My doc put me on a PPI which "cured" the nausea and gave me a nice break for about 18 months. I'm currently tapering off the PPI (Protonix) and am only having a little reflux which is tolerable. I'm using all the usual OTC products including Alka-Seltzer. I still have to avoid rich foods, coffee, and I never take NSAIDS, which caused this. It's important to say that I do not recommend taking a proton pump inhibitor for very long. The side effects include fractures, neuromas, and dementia. Wishing you best of luck in finding your answers! Happy holidays!

Has anyone considered gastroparesis? This is when your stomach doesn’t empty properly. The test is a gastric emptying study but you have to have the test when ur having symptoms imo

Yes and thanks. Had test and have gastroparesis but it went away last 3 or 4 months after occurring daily. Odd to me. Happy holidays.

This is a cycle. Have not changed my diet. Felt great for about 4 weeks again and then boom! Wake up with nausea and fatigue. Any ideas or help would be appreciated. Have not eaten or had any weird things to eat or drink. Thanks.

@mikejjb123 This exact thing happened to me last year and it completely took me off guard. I had about 3 "good" weeks (finally) and changed nothing. Nothing at all. I've never been able to figure out why. I hope others are able to weigh in on this, also. Sometimes, I just think it's the nature of the beast. We can't always know why something happens. Thankfully, I didn't get my hopes up so that when things returned it didn't surprise me. I'm so sorry your nausea came back - we must remember to be grateful for those "small victories," no matter how long or short they last. Hope you can get relief soon. :/

I have not been officially diagnosed with Gastroparesus but had major nausea for days. Was given a drug called Metoclopramide and it stopped the nausea immediately and was able eat again and feel good. It is a short term drug. It speeds up digestion in the stomach. I was already takimg scripts for slow bowel motility.
