I had shoulder surgery this afternoon with a nerve block. Working great for upper shoulder but my hand and fingers are really bothering me with the numbness but tingling and pain. Does this mean the block is wearing off already? Will this continue all the way up the arm? Nurse said wait til block wears off before starting pain pills but I cannot wait. This extremely uncomfortable. Pain med hasn’t touched it.

This response is simply my personal experience with postoperative pain management following rotator cuff surgery. I had my right rotator cuff repaired a couple of years ago. The surgery was fairly extensive lasting approximately 3 1/2 hours. Two plates, six pins and four screws to repair the rotator cuff and horizontal bicep tear. My suggestion is if you even remotely believe the nerve block is wearing off promptly take your prescribed pain medications. It’s much easier to manage the pain before it escalates. Once the pain reaches a certain level it’s difficult to manage going forward, My right shoulder has healed and is now stronger than ever after a lot of hard work in rehab. This coming Friday 09/26/2025 I’m having surgery to repair the left shoulder which has pretty much the identical injuries as the right shoulder. A lifetime of motocross has taken its toll. Lol I’ve decided to try the extended nerve block this time. I will report my progress in the coming weeks. I’m hopeful this will help with the postoperative pain management. Fingers crossed 🤞 Be well my friends Aloha
