Electrical shocks throughout my body.

Hello. I’m not sure if anyone knows what I am talking about but I am hoping that someone does because I am beginning to feel crazy. Every day, I have an electrical sensation feeling throughout my entire body. The only way I can describe it to people is that it feels like I am being shocked by a light switch throughout my entire body. It is very painful, however only lasts from around 5-20 minutes, 1-5 times a day. It’s starting to scare me because my doctor looked at me like I was crazy, and my nurses chuckled when they heard my symptoms. I am going to a neurologist but they cannot fit me in for another month. It’s very painful for me and it has started to come with a red, splotchy rash from my neck down to my legs. If anyone has any idea what this could be and what I can do to surprise the pain, I would really appreciate the advice. And also if anyone else deals with this please tell me because I really am starting to think I am crazy. Thank you!

So I was feeling these same symptoms this morning when I woke up and decided to google “why do I feel electricity going through my body” and this popped up. Nod I am nervous to notify my doctor as I don’t want to be treated as a joke but it is very real.

I get about the same sensation, but in only lasts about 10 minutes, mostly in shoulders and hips.. I have LGMDR23, and a bunch of cancers, broken nerves, etc. If you get answers, be sure to put them on here. oldkarl

My husband has these electrical shocks usually twice a day and they last 20 minutes. We use gabapentin and tylenol. They are the only things that have helped so far. The neurologist does not seem to know what to do about them. He also has Parkinsons for 15 years. These painful shocks started about 5 years ago. So no you are not crazy just in a lot of pain and want relief. At least now you know you are not the only one having them and trying to figure out what to do to stop them. I was glad to find this site in the search for answers. jean

Hi
You're definitely not crazy. I used to get them in my legs quite a lot. Now it's just occasionally in my torso.

kidwithshocks @braedenl2202: I have had electric shocks twice. The first time happened after being discharged from a mental hospital. I thought I was going crazy and was too embarrassed to mention it to the doc. I suspect it might have been due to a med change while in the hospital. That was in the 1980s. Two summers ago I tried to taper off Zoloft. Beside all the usual symptoms a drug addict feels when in need of a fix, the shocks came back. The only body part affected was my head. I'm sorry you are feeling it all over. It was bad enough having frequent shocks all over my head. I hope you find relief fast.

I get jolts of electric shock pain all over me, very painful but short.
I have been put on 1000mg of Tegretol and the Neurologist says I need an ever higher dose to try to stop these shocks, until I get an MRI scan on my brain, neck and spine to find out what is wrong. Very frightening. This is damage to the nervous system.

FIRE your dumbass doctor and nurses. this is serious to you. you don't need them treating you like you're crazy & laughing at you. this is your health & life. it's your right. good luck, d

Go to A&E, the rash sounds like a bad reaction to medication like Carbamazepine, that helps to cut down electric shocks over your body.
I'm getting a serious problem with my Central Nervous System. I'm getting electric socks all over me and hot pinching pain too. Anyone get these get your Doctor to send you to a Neurologist as a matter of urgency. I started off with just stinging and burning throat and neck pain and it quickly spread. Now I have 3 rare Neuralgia's in, one side of my face, my neck and the back of one side of my head, plus these electric shocks and pinching pain all over me. Horrendous to go through each day. I'm worried about my dog and who will look after him, if anything happens to me. Because it doesn't look good for me. Just now it's pain from I wake up, until I fall asleep.
So please any nerve pain in your neck or face, go to the Doctor early.

Our neurologist does not know what to do for electric shocks so he is just giving him seizure medicine to try. It does not help that much so far. Checking with another neurologist to see what he knows but it may take months to get in to see him if they ever call us back.

all i can say is Google what causes electrical shocks in the body? i found two or three different types of possibilities. good luck, d

Linda from the Calgary Neuropathy Association here. I had this and it turned out to be peripheral neuropathy. A Vitamin B complex keeps them away for me.
