Can you take tymlos and prolia

Posted by burrells5 @burrells5, Jan 10 9:47am

Anyone on tymlos and prolia or switched to tymlos after prolia? I still have 3 months of prolia in me and 3 weeks ago started tymlos. New dr new everything and I don't know whether to trust her or not. I had 6 compression Fractures when I was off prolia for 3 months due to insurance. Will this happen again or will tymlos be a replacement. I also read tymlos doesn't work well after prolia??? She also says no need for blood test that I read lots of people have. No need for follow up dexa. How do I know is working?

There are still plenty of things that can be done. I didn't mean to scare you.
Learn as much as you can, try to get those tests, and have good discussion with your doctor, or try to find a different doctor. I'm nearly 54. My doctor gave me a Prolia injection last year. I found this group, did a lot of research, decided not to get another Prolia injection, and found a new doctor who is running a ton of tests before I embark on any further treatment.

oh thank you. How do you suggest I look for another dr. I asked to be referred to a rheumatologist but that is 4 to 6 mo away. I am so afraid my prolia will run out and only be on the tymlos that I will have vcf again. Good to know someone else is young. Not discounting older women but I plan on being around for a good while longer and I really want to get a plan for now and long term.

@hopefullibrarian I was going to mention Ben Leder as another possible source on sequencing (and combos). His video is great.

The wait times to see specialists is nuts. I really lucked out. I have a new insurance plan that started on Jan 1, I called an osteoporosis specialy clinic on the 2nd, and got in on the 4th at 8 am. Where I live in the upper midwest, it turns out that 8 am tends to be the least preferd time slot in winter. I found my new doctor by searching for osteoporosis specific clinics, and doctors who specialize in osteoporosis. I found a specialty clinic that is on my plan, asked my PCP for a referal, and got the appointment. I have to drive a long way on rural roads to get there, but, for me, it's worth it.

That is great. I would gladly drive anywhere just to get someone who knows what they are doing

Thanks for sharing the video. I literally had to watch it in parts because i got so upset. If this is correct, I am really a lost cause. I am 56. I have been on prolia at least 4 years. I still have 3 months before another prolia injection and now the new supposedly "osteo" dr has put me on tymlos, which is reversed sequence. In 3 months she does not want to renew the prolia. Her plan is for me to stay on tymlos 18 mo then back to the prolia. I am so worried. I feel like I am doomed. I really don't know what direction to go. Prior to 3 months ago, I was extremely athletic, hiking, running, walking, and biking around 200 miles a week. Now I can only do short walks or hikes and strength training exercises.

Sometimes the path is not as clearly defined as we would like it to be. In my case, after 3 fractures on Prolia, my options were very limited hence the transition to Tymlos. It was necessary to strive for for fracture prevention. My rheumatologist recommended resuming Prolia after the Tymlos. I’m consulting with an endocrinologist next month to assess her recommendations and possibly switch doctors to manage my op.

I am assuming the the the rheumatologist said it was ok to go off the prolia to the tymlos. I am trying to educate myself but the more I read the more worried I become. Some articles say the only meds you can't relay off prolia with are bisphosphonates and I have also read not to take bisph with tymlos. Also read tymlos doesn't work well after being on prolia. So confusing and nerve wracking. Please let me know once you get bone markers. My dr refuses to even order them to have a baseline.

Fortunately I have a wonderful relationship with my pcp who ordered the tests yesterday. Will have labs done Monday and will report my results here

If it were me I would be calling the rheumatologist/endocrinologist office directly. Ask them if they will give you an appointment then have your PCP send the referral.

If I can't get better support from my medical insurance to cover Tymlos, my doctor as asked me to think about Prolia. She did mention that the first 24 hours after the shot are not pleasant. Both of us are delighted with the DEXA report after 6 months of daily injections which became as routine as teeth brushing.
