Developed a Seroma after surgery that didn’t go away on its own?
I had Lumpectomy surgery on August 1, 2023.
I have developed a very large Saroma near the incision.
My Oncologist examined it and said it’s one of the bigger ones he has seen and typically when they get that large, it doesn’t go away on on its own and may possibly need to be removed.
Has anyone ever had a Seroma after surgery that did not go away on its own?
Thank you!

I had my ultrasound and the Seroma is 2cm. My surgeon will remove it and then take out more tissue. Surgery is Thursday.
The gal who did the ultrasound said there is some calcification at the edge. I hoping it just means there is healing going on but am waiting for my surgeon to call and go over it with me.
Anyone have any knowledge about calcification and what it could mean?
Thanks!
I also had a seroma that would not go away with simple syringe extraction. I had to go to interventional radiology and have a drain inserted into the seroma for about 10 days. I went back, it was removed and had no problem after that. Don’t know about meaning of calcifications.
I developed large area denim’s too. My surgeon said it will gradually be absorbed.
I had a large seroma after surgery and it did not drain. I had surgery and I had and have no issues.
I had a lumpectomy in July2023 with sentinel lymph nodes removed. I developed a seroma in the axilary area that had to be aspirated twice. My breast has always been tender, then it became warm. I had a seroma in my breast that was aspirated a couple weeks ago. The pain and tenderness is back. I go to my surgeon next wednesday but am extremely uncomfortable. Any suggestions? Thanks!
I developed a seroma after mastectomy and placement of expander (I am waiting for my exchange surgery in February). Doctor was reluctant to aspirate due to concerns about infection so he recommended I wear a compression bra. I actually bought a sports type bra that is one size too small and it has worked very well in controlling the size and discomfort of the seroma. Good luck!
I also developed a sernoma after breast surgery. When the surgeon tried to drain it, no fluid came out, yet it seemed to relieve the pressure/swelling and the “knot” dissipated to some degree. Can I expect continued improvement?

I also developed seroma after lumpectomy. Mine burst needed surgery to close it. Had it drained several times. Now no problem. Had to start radiation after it closed and was drained.
