Finished 28 Proton Therapies
Notice that ejaculation was very painful but after 3 weeks every thing started to flow - prostate discomfort faded again-maybe I got lucky. Getting my 1st PSA ON Dec 11th 2023
I only had 1 core with a Gleason 7 - my doctors told me prior to treatment most likely I nipped it in the bud.

I'm 65 and I am in excellent health. I live in Northern Wisconsin summers and winter in Scottsdale 6 mo out of the year. Been staying up North going thru my Biopsy and Pet scan... Meet with a surgeon tomorrow. I also contacted Mayo Scottsdale and may decide to go down. there for a second opinion. Mayo Rochester MN is about 5 hours from me. If I go the Mayo route I could have their care where ever I am. (that's a plus). I believe the survival rates are equal with both proton therapy and RProstectomy. I'll know more tomorrow.
lee, haven't wanted to interrupt the flow with sam and jc.
Similar situation options:
5 fraction Proton
5 fraction SRBT with MRI guidance
28 fraction Proton
I don't think the 5 fraction Proton with MRI guidance is available now, otherwise that would be my choice.
Take a look at the 5 anyway. Avoid surgery, if you can.
Best wishes
Your posts have been very helpful and informative. We are exactly the same age. I am still in the PC screening/ diagnostic phase. May I ask where you received the proton therapy?
At 72 I chose surgery at a center of excellence (Johns Hopkins), and would choose it again.
Very good health, other than PCa (G 9 & 8s).
Surgery gave me a chance for "cure", removal of the known cancerous prostate and reserved radiation therapy for any recurrence (surgery after radiation is problematic).
Note however that surgery and radiation are said to have similar survival statistics.
Excellent resource for many has been Patrick Walsh MD's book "Surviving Prostate Cancer".
Best wishes for your tx choice and success.

Hi @kalidad, will you be getting proton beam therapy? When do you start?
ABDELam 72 years old. Please find attached biopsy results, I am on waiting time and PSA every 3 months. The biopsy was done 9 months ago. Your comments and advises are highly appreciated.
Seems like a good report to me and Active Surveillance seems reasonable. Glad to see you're getting blood tests every 3 months. Perhaps they could run a decipher test on your biopsy samples. Best of luck. I had an RP in August 22 at 60 yo. No side effects for me.
Thanks for posting your biopsy results, I assume with Gleason 3+3=6 you are on Active surveillance, everything I've read says to do AS even with Gleason 3+4
My MRI showed 1 12mm lesion and PIRADS 4 and I had a 4K score of 95 ( most aggressive) so my next step in and MRI Perineal needle biopsy, I am hoping for results like yours
New York Proton Center have 5 Fraction Proton with MRI Guidance.
Most proton centers use “volumetric” beams that deliver a fixed quantity of energy to the entire tumor. But the pencil beam scanners at the New York Proton Center deliver “intensity-modulated proton therapy,” or IMPT.
Widely considered the most advanced form of proton therapy, IMPT can target different parts of the tumor with different radiation dose levels to most precisely and effectively treat the tumor. That’s particularly valuable when treating the most complicated tumors, such as those residing in brain or spine, head and neck, lungs and chest, and abdomen.
