Lupron treatment and Fatigue...

Posted by ronc320403 @ronc320403, Jan 3 12:11pm

I am having to decide about Lupron dosages. I can either got monthly or go quarterly. I would get a 3 month dose, in 90 days check the PSA.

I am a care giver for my wife, is the Lupron going to knock me down so I will not be able to tend to our needs, such as meal, laundry and doing the shopping?

I was on Lupron for a year using the 3 month injections. Last one was end of July2023. My testosterone has not yet started to recover-was < 3 in early December. I experienced hot flashes when I got warm that would last a couple of minutes. They were worse the first several weeks after the injections. I have had significant fatigue, muscle aches and joint stiffness. My MO said it was very important to stay active and not gain weight. You will lose muscle mass. I walk daily even when I don't want to. Haven't had the energy to go back to the gym.
My PCP who has a lot of patients on Lupron said the effects are variable depending on the individual. The more active you were prior the less the drug will affect you. That's what he said. Good luck.

Thank you very much. I will go with the 3 month plan. You've confirmed that my reaction will vary and just deal with it. I have faith in my Oncologist and know he will help me through.
Best to you, thanks again.

I think my age (86) makes my experience different from anyone else's.
I took Lupron only twice, and stopped it in August, 2022.
This is now January, 2024, and my testosterone and muscle mass STILL have not returned to normal range.
Before Lupron, I regularly took 4-mile walks to the store a few times a week. I took walking for granted.
I did not feel confident enough during 2023 to take even a single walk.

Thank you for the info. I will be alert for that and hope for and alternative. Because of knee problems I'm not able to do much walking now so it may hit me more severely.

I am on ADT 4 + years now. Fatigue is real, but with a heavy dose of wellness (Nutrition, Exercise, Mindfulness) practices I am able to manage fatigue into my life style equation.

I'm becoming less and less apprehensive with the responses I've received. Greatly appreciative!

Appr4eciate. My wife has to keep the house very warm so I'm dreading the hot flashes as much as anything. Your tip on the Venlafaxine will hopefully help. I will probably get my first 3 month shot later this month or early Feb. Take care.

I started 3-monthly injections 14 months ago. Changed to once-monthly about half way. Can’t say much of a difference. Generally weak. Physical therapy helps. Walking helps—I use poles.
