Vestibular Schwannoma Hearing Loss Treatment?
What is the current state of treatment for those who have suffered full hearing loss due to vestibular Schwannoma? Eight years ago, my wife underwent cyber knife treatment for her tumor and eventually lost all hearing on that side as a result. At that time, she was told that the hearing loss would be permanent but every few years I look for any advancements that might benefit her. I’ve read about Dr. Samir Mardini’s team that focuses on facial paralysis and wanted to ask if his work or that of others at MC might be of interest to my wife.
Thanks in advance.
James

@jameslj, welcome. That is a good question. You're right that hearing loss related to an acoustic neuroma (vestibular schwannoma) or its treatment is usually permanent.
Did you know there is also a Hearing Loss Support Group here: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/hearing-loss/
What was the cause of her hearing loss on the non-tumor side? Do hearing aids work for her?
Mayo Clinic offers updates/webinars on their research and treatment options for acoustic neuroma patients.
