Burning Tongue Issues?

Posted by chigal10 @chigal10, Dec 29, 2023

Has anyone else experienced issues with burning tongue and slightly bitter after taste that’s altered taste buds? This is a frustrating issue I’ve had after battling Covid. Prescription mouthwashes don’t seem to do anything either unfortunately.

I had covid in the fall of 2020. My taste and smell were my first signs. I still do not have taste or smell back. My tongue feels numb or tingling at times, I continue to get sores on my tongue and gums. I have been to ENT and had biopsies done, nothing. I had blood work done lately, because I feel exhausted and feel like I am foggy. I had one of the test come back high so was sent to rheumatologist. He did the same test and it came back fine. He said that happens at times to read high but is not. He listened to all my symptoms and believes I am dealing with long term covid. It gets disheartening to continue to see no progress in my symptoms. I have a very understanding family but still feel like I don't want to complain to them. It's just something others who haven't dealt with this, understand. I just joined this group hoping to see how others are dealing with this.

Gabapentin can do that but it usually goes away over time. The vision accommodates, at least for me. I was also placed on a very low dose of Siniquane ( an old tricyclic). 25mg, very low. They now have 10mg Doxepin ( same thing). I did it for a year. Saved my life! The first few days I thought ( oh my goodness, how will I function) but the blurry went away. Good luck and wishing you have Happy New Year and a Healthy one too!

Thank you for the information about the medication you were given. I will tell my doctor about your experience. Hopefully it will help me as well!
Here’s hoping we all have a happy and healthy New Year!!

I feel like that too. I don’t want to constantly complain. I rarely mention it, even though it tortures me every waking minute. It takes a toll. I can’t escape it, except for a few minutes after using Bioten mouth moisturizer. I have read some tips on this site and intend to pursue them. I’m now ambivalent about the hypnosis. I wish I had some cases where people have gotten relief. It’s a lot of money to invest, if it’s not going to be effective.

I hear ya. I dont feel like myself and I don't like it. My blood work they thought that maybe I had lupus....I thought with that at least I may get some answers but coming back not that, I am here again with no answers. I did go and have acupuncture, that didn't do anything. I am not drinking enough because nothing tastes good or burns my mouth. Thank you for commenting on my post. I hope you find answers.

Of course. It helps to know others are out there feeling like we do, imo. Even though I have other issues, this constant bad taste takes priority. I can’t imagine it burning too. That’s horrible. I’m not sure which life lesson this is teaching me, but I’m betting it’s endurance or compassion. Take care and please post any updates.

Oh, my blood work is good too, except that back in April 2023, I was diagnosed with Vitamin B12 deficiency. I was having several dental things going on and went in injections to get it up fast. It takes 6-12 months for body to process changes….not sure if it’s related. Also, had wisdom tooth extraction and bone graft….related? And, I had BCC removed Moh’s surgery in Dec. 2023 o my temple, near nerves. Related? Idk. But, ENT reviewed it all and said Post covid syndrome. So…..how can we be certain? No one knows.

Tested positive Covid on 12/26/2023. This is my 3rd time with covid. Have had all the symptoms of Long Covid like many of you. This time I have lost my smell and taste. This is day 6 so hopefully it will come back after another week.
Have chest burning over past 3 years. Arrhythmias which have gone away. Burning bottom of feet at bedtime. Reflux has become recent. Prilosec has helped.
What has helped me with my chest burning is supplement MSM Methylsulfonylmethane it helps me with inflammation and immune system. I get mine from Young Living https://www.youngliving.com/us/en/product/sulfurzyme-capsules?enrollerId=16734084&sponsorId=16734084
There are companies that have MSM. People take it for joint pain.
I had chest burning the other night couldn’t sleep. Took 2 capsules and in 15 minutes it was gone. I take 2 cap in Am and PM and then again when I have symptoms. Just wanted to share.
Happy New Year. Here’s to a better year.

I’m a long hauler with no taste or smell since December of 2022. I’m currently having acupuncture to try to regain it, but as of yet, nothing has changed, but my sinuses have opened up a bit. I hope yours comes back, as by now, I’m sure you’re wanting to taste and smell something. Life is quite dull without it.

I got my smell and taste back on day 10 of positive covid. I am so happy.
Still have fatigue and foggy brain. Low energy.
My PCP listened to me about possible Long covid. Referred me to immunology. So we will see what he says. My Covid symptoms come back since July 2020 every 60 days. Last for a few days then go away only to come back. Trying to stay positive. ❤️
