Hi my name is Edyie but I like to be called smilie. I suffer from depression and arthritis. I’m usually in the other group. How does anyone grocery shop, the bags are usually too heavy?

hi smiley what I do cuz I can't go out and get those heavy bags for grocery shopping what I do is get my groceries from Walmart if you buy over $35 the the delivery fee is free or you can go to instacart also but that's a membership it's $9 and a month but then it's also a $5 delivery fee and it's all over $35 in groceries I prefer Walmart I have gotten a lot of my products from Walmart one of the lady said she couldn't get her meat from Walmart but I've had no problem so I don't know what the what her problem was

Hi smiley what I do is buy my groceries at Walmart and they deliver them but you have to buy over $35 worth of food or groceries I usually get my heavy stuff from them and and they are very good at delivering mostly on time

@smilie I ran the cash register putting myself through college and I remember trying to get as much as possible in each bag. But I can't imagine that any checker would refuse to keep the bags lighter. If you tell them that you can't carry much weight, they will understand.

Another solution could be to keep plastic or cloth bags in your trunk to transfer things to when you get home.

You can also order your groceries from Walmart and drive up to the pick up area and they'll come out and put your purchases in your car for you. I've done the online shopping at Walmart and go inside and someone will bring the things you ordered. That works for a lot of things, but it doesn't take the place of walking around and making your own selections.

Hello @smilie,

Regarding the shopping bags that are too heavy:

I usually use the self-checkout (You Scan) aisles at the grocery store. That way I can keep the bags at a weight that is comfortable for me. If you cannot do that, then I suggest that you tell the cashier or bagger to please keep the bags light enough for you to carry. As younger people might not understand your physical limitations, you might specify the limit of canned goods and/or specify a weight for each bag. I usually shop for groceries several times per week so that I can keep the amount I have to carry very light.

I agree, it is not an easy problem to solve.

Do the stores in your vicinity have grocery delivery services? It does cost a bit more but might be well worth the additional cost.
