Mom diagnosed with ovarian cancer severe leg pain. Relief ideas?
My mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer 3 weeks ago. Still no name for type of cancer. The biopsy was forwarded to Mayo for identification So hard to not have a plan. Also she has severe pain in leg and no relief of the pain so far. Looking for any suggestions. Thigh severe burning. Same side as ovary pain is a 10 out of 10. She hasn’t ever been sick before. Hospitalized only for births 53 years ago

@lhmfamily01 How sad that your mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and there is no plan as yet. I am hopeful that your mother will get a quick response from the Mayo pathologists so that she and your family will have a plan.
The nerves involved with pain are so complex. Since you shared that her pain is “burning pain” I’m thinking it might be pain she feels more on the surface of her thigh extending from the pelvic area where the affected ovary is. Has she called her doctor? Even if her doctor isn’t available there should be someone on call. If it were me I’d be on the phone trying to get some suggestions on how to lessen the pain as it sounds just awful to me.
Does she have medication for pain that isn’t working? Has your mother tried Tylenol? What about a cool bath with Epsom salts which might be soothing or ice packs?
Thank you for replying. Mom is taking Tylenol right now and adding a lidocaine patch to help. It is short lived unfortunately so I will have her call again on Tuesday.
@lhmfamily01 Thank you for replying and letting me know that your mom has been taking Tylenol and the lidocaine patch. Yes, I think it’s good that she will call her doctor after the holiday. I know how hard it is to wait during a holiday period however it’s very likely that the Mayo pathologists are working through the holiday. I hope your mom gets her results back next week.
Is there a specific support group for family members going through this? I don’t want to burden people with my questions or comments if there is a better place. Thank you. We now need to get a Cat Scan on her lungs to see if her cancer originates there and metastasized to her ovary. It’s one of two types of cancers apparently
@lhmfamily01 There is a Caregivers Support Group. If you'd like to post your questions in the Caregivers Support Group you may get some helpful responses from our members who are supporting their family members as you are doing.
Caregivers Support Group on Mayo Clinic Connect:

Don’t worry about burdening people. I’ve found this group to be very responsive. There is comfort in knowing you are not alone. The addition of the caregivers group might also be helpful. Good luck. It is hard being on both sides of this disease.
And your questions may help those that may experience similar issues.
My sister was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in March, 2022.
There is a support group on Facebook called "Sisterhood of Ovarian Cancer Survivors". It's for women with the illness and/or their close family members. One can ask whatever they want, and women who have insight into the issue give you their experience. It is a very supportive group.

@lhmfamily01. How is your mother feeling today? Was she able to talk with her doctor about the leg and thigh pain last week?
My mother has now officially started chemo on Friday the 29th. The leg pain is there but along with a new nerve blocking med she is tolerating it much better thank you so much for asking. Her specific cancer is yet to be identified but treating as ovarian.
