Sibo treatment Rifaxamin and Neomycin

Posted by azj @azj, Oct 1, 2022

I have been diagnosed with SIBO and am being advised to take Rifaxamin 3x a day and Neomycin 2x a day for 14 days. I have many concerns about the Neomycin due to the ototoxicity. I have a bit of tinnitus already the think that may make me more vulnerable to a possible problem. The idea of taking something that might hurt my hearing even more is concerning. Any thoughts about the Neomycin in this context? I would like to hear about the research and if genetics can be determined to see if this would be safe for me to take.
Also, does anyone have any recommendations for a Dr. at Mayo/ Scottsdale who treats SIBO? I would like to coordinate care with my other doctors at Mayo as I think this is going to be essential to getting a handle on this.
Much gratitude in advance for this supportive community.
Take care,
Jaki

Sadly, my insurance has denied the Xifaxin... Has anyone been able to figure out a workaround for this situation?
Thanks in advance.

Yes but I never took it.
I can’t take the neomycin.
You need with the Rifaximin for methane SIBO.

So still dealing with it.

Cipro messed up my gut.

Hi,
My insurance wouldn’t cover the cost Rifamaxin (take Neomycin with it, ask ur Dr) either. Go to: http://www.canadaprescriptionsplus.com and read about their website then call them with any questions you may have…very friendly and knowledgeable customer service personnel Ask ur doctor to fax your prescription to them. I just purchased 50 Rifamaxin tables for $74.10 delivered. You will have mail them a money order ( use an international stamp on your envelope to speed things up). The whole process can take up to 30 days. The best price I could find in the USA was around $700 …. someone is getting rich !!!Keep fighting, be your own advocate, the doctors don’t seem to know what to do. Good luck to you!!!

Ask your Doctor for samples. Mine gave me two weeks of samples. It’s ridiculous how much they cost in US.

I was prescribed but didn’t take it due to cost. I have been working with a nutritionist. Good luck.

A good work around is to get the xifaxin thru a canadian drug store. You can get 100 pills for $120
