my question: whybdo inahve suxh diffixulty tidering? dr wants me to taper but pains always come back (hips/shoulders).
@joanierav, I'm sorry to hear you are having trouble tapering. My first time with PMR took me 3 and half years to taper off. I spent the last six months of that time going back and forth between 1 mg and 1/2 mg prednisone until I could stop without any significant pain, for me that was below a 2 on my pain scale. You might be trying to taper too much too fast. Each of us are different but my Mayo rheumatologist always told me I have to listen to my body. He had me keep a daily log of my pain on a scale of 1 to 10 along with my dosage of prednisone. If my pain was higher than 2 when I tried to taper down, I tried upping my dosage to half of what I just tapered down to see if I could still keep at a lower dose than my previous one.
