My husband had stage 4 leukemia and he was given chemotherapy, blood and platelet transfusions. He had a very weak heart so they could not give him a strong dose of the chemo and he decided to quit his therapy and then passed away. Leukemia can be put into remission. You need to seek help immediately and start treatment. The sooner you start the better your chances are of remission.
My neighbor is in remission. Don’t give up! See an Oncologist ASAP.
Welcome to Mayo Connect, @adeleke212. I’m reaching out through the computer this morning to give you a reassuring hug. There are many types of leukemia and the key is to get treatment as soon as possible. I had a very aggressive form of leukemia…actually 5 years ago right now. The odds weren’t at all in my favor the night I was diagnosed. But here I am, five years later after completing treatments, healthy, active and feeling as though nothing ever happened. So please don’t give up hope on this!
There are so many members in Connect who have had leukemia and have survival stories. We’re all here to help and encourage you through this journey. But First, could you tell me a little bit more about how you were diagnosed and what type of leukemia you have? Are you working with a hematologist oncologist?
A friend had stage 4 leukemia. With treatment, she lived another 10 years and saw her daughter marry and have 2 children. See an MPN specialist and go to a well known facility for dealing with leukemia. She went to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. She had a good quality of life except for her last month. Take care!
A friend from Maryland.

I have been thinking I’m going to die soon
@adeleke212 I know it can feel hopeless when you’ve been diagnosed with cancer. But this luekemia may be treatable for you. That’s why it’s important to see a doctor first to see if you do have treatment options. Do you have family members who may be able to help you?
I’m from poor family i can’t afford the bills to treat for leukemia I’m going to die
Please don't despair if you can. Do you know what form of leukemia you have as there are many types? Some acute and some chronic. I personally have chronic lymphocytic leukemia and could possibly live 20 years without needing treatment. If you do need treatment, there may be financial help that your doctors could direct you to.
I felt the same when I was diagnosed with PMF in July. I'm 76 so age is not in my favor. I don't have serious symptoms that cause pain yet. Just fatigue, enlarged spleen and 31k White Blood Cells count. I am going to the Mayo Clinic on Jan 8 to see an MPN specialist to see if my local oncologist plan of Watch and Wait is the right plan for me. It is a very scary ordeal but I manage my dark thoughts pretty well by living a normal life as well as I can and staying in touch with friends. Welcome to our wonderful group and I wish the best for you.
