Hello @anomad, I don't have any experience with an epidural for neuropathy but there are quite a few discussions and posts where other members have shared their experience. You might want to look through the discussions and posts while you wait for members to share their experience on epidurals. @anomad I would like to offer a bit more information. Epidural injections are given in the spine area for problems that are caused by a spine condition such as compression of a nerve exiting the spine. That can be a reason for pain in an ankle (in the absence of ankle injury). The doctor first needs to track down the source of your pain. This is often the job of a neurologist who does some tests and imaging to determine where the pain is being generated. Sometimes, neuropathy is just caused by nerves wearing out. This is what a doctor needs to determine to know what is right for the patient.
Have you been examined by a neurologist?
I have not seen a neurologist. I am treated at the VA . I just got a Epidural on past Friday. The tingling And burning has stopped but I still have the Numbness.
Thank you for your service to our country. I pray that you find the relief that you are seeking. I had an epidural block in my cervical spine and that worked pretty well for a year. Then I went in and had four level laminectomy and fusion surgery. I'm still dealing with neuropathy in my hands. I am in a holding pattern until my one year anniversary of surgery in April. Sometimes a patient must be patient! It takes a long time for nerves to regenerate if they are going to regenerate at all.
Thank You for the information . My numbness is still there but I am not giving up. 😊👍🏻
When I opened up a dojo on 5th avenue in New York City called East Meets West Karate Corp, I posted two signs. The first read never give up and the second rule was keep on trying. All we can do is to continue to put one foot in front of the other.
I have actually found a topical that works wonders on the neuropathy in my hands. It is called Nirvanta Extra Strength and it is available on Amazon. Between tizanidine and Nirvanta, my hands feel ok and I can live with the discomfort at this level.
I have tried so many different things and nothing works. This works.
@anomad L3, L4, and S1 are the nerves that serve the ankle ad lower leg. You didn’t indicate where your epidural was but I presume along these lines. The numbness will hopefully dissipate over time or not. Caution with too many steroid injections as they can speed up bone destruction where they are injected. I hope you’re able to pinpoint the cause of your neuropathy and obtain satisfactory treatment. Thanks for your service and good luck.
Thank you for the comment. My epidural was L4 and it has not helped . But I am not giving up. 👍🏻🙏
