Is anyone with GCA experiencing jaw tightness?

I am on 30 ml of prednisone and wondering if I should increase the dose.

That is definitely one of the symptoms I had when it started for me. After they finally diagnosed me correctly I was put on 80mg of Prednisone. So it's possible that you need a higher dose but the doctor would have to change your prescription.

I, too, was put on 80mg of Prednisone. Please speak to your doctor asap.

Hi @susang222, Hoping you are doing OK. Have you been able to talk to your doctor or rheumatologist about your jaw tightness symptoms?

I did have jaw pain in the beginning. It was one of the last symptoms to go away. And like the others I started at a higher dose - 60 mg. Worth checking with your doctor.

I have had PMR for 2 years. The highest dose of prednisone for me has been 10mg. I have tried to wean off slowly 3 different times and when I get down to 2-3 mg I get a flare-up. I’m Experiencing a flare up now went 5mg for 6 days ago and for the past have been experiencing tighting in my right jaw. Talked with my doctor on Friday and he felt I didn’t have Giant Cell Arteritis since I don’t have tenderness in the scalp or headaches. I’m having the worse flare up right now and I am so concern about GCA. What type of pain relievers do your doctors tell you to take? I know advil or Tylenol do absolutely nothing with my pain level right now at 9-10. Sleep was nonexistence this past night.
Thank you for any info. Linda

How often and by how much do you taper below 5mg? I hear repeatedly that one should reduce by no more than 10% each time, so at 5mg that would be less than .5mg reduction. How have you been doing it?

I reduce 1 mg per month, real slowly, or at least I thought it was.

The Australian tapering schedule is to reduce by 1mg every 4 - 8 weeks (below 10mg). Being prone to react more strongly than some people to rises and falls in medications, I reduce by .5mg every 3wks for the mid-range reduction of 1mg every 6wks. I also soften the reduction by alternating between the current and new dose for the first reduction week.

It's working well so far, but I'm only at 6mg and hoping it continues to work as well below 5mg, which it may or may not. Time will tell. I'm sorry you're having a flare and hope you find a quick solution.

That’s a great thought. I hope this continues to work for you as you go below 5mg. I hope you will let me know your progress.
