Forteo and weight gain
I’ve been on Forteo since my surgery 14 weeks ago and I have put on 20 pounds and I feel so uncomfortable and depressed . Is there anything else that would be as good to take with out the weight gain? Waiting desperately for help 🥲🙁

@me75 . I started Tymlos in June and have gained 32#! Primarily in my belly. The sugar cravings are horrible! I don’t have any answers and am frustrated because I know about nutrition and portion sizes and protein intake but I can’t seem to follow a proper diet. Weight gain was not a side effect noted during clinical trials and so far several of my doctors have an explanation. For me it’s caused a lot of anxiety and depression as well. I know this problem has affected others as it’s been posted. If anyone who has also had a weight gain and has some explanation and solutions please share!!

Besides building marvelous bone, parathyroid hormone (both tymlos and forteo) can increase insulin resitance and intracellular calcium.
The insulin resistance creates a physical desire (need) for more glucose as the insulin your body produces is not effective at breaking down the carbohydrates you eat.
Intracellular calcium in fat cells prevents the breakdown and death of those cells. So you are accumulating all the fat cells that your body would lose in normal replacement processes.

I suspect it didn't show up in the clinicals because women tend to blame themselves. And the world seems happy to let the blame rest there.
Lowering blood sugar with a drug like metformin might help. Liposuction is more of a cure, made easier because the fat accumulates around the waist rather than distributing evenly.
Evenity doesn't have the number of reports of weight gain (yet), but maybe won't the mechanism of action being unrelated to parathyroid hormone.
Reading tells me that weight loss after cessation of Tymlos and Forteo is slow, but sure.
I do think that we all take excessive calcium supplimentation following the advice of our medical providers.
I never take more than 250mg at a time, I don't think it should be taken without a k2 two hours before. And I always take it two hours before the injection and just before bed. My calcium intake is highly suspect and shouldn't be taken as advice.
Great. I asked if weight gain or anxiety would be problems with Tymlos and was told no. I’m not about to add either of those problems. Already had L2 fracture. Guess I hope estrogen and testosterone help.
i joined this group to talk about osteoprosis and we have done that ane alot of good information but i also see people taling powerful dugs with many side effects and then needing anotherdrug to combat it. i find the knowlegde the drs have is very little as to what to take and whatt not to take there is a point in life where you need to look at the benefits of the drug and if it is really worth taking because of the timeframe needed for it to do anything. i know many many people have had success with many of the drugs but there are as many or more who have not we need a full discussion about what to take and what not to take and we shouldn't have to take othet drugs to support a drug
Does anyone know if there are any interactions between Forteo and weight loss drugs like Wegovy or Zepbound?
Are you looking for posts that address only the nutritional remedies? We could start one. Maybe with the title: Tell me what foods and supplements work for you.
That would be a great idea . I really need to know what to do
Tell me what food and supplements to take when I need to lose weight while taking Forteo injections

I’m going through same things and don’t know what to do I have to take Forteo after my scoliosis surgery for at lest a year but I’m so depressed because of weight gain
