My doctor told me I was just starting macular degeneration in one eye. He suggested I start using Bausch & Lomb’s PreserVision Areds 2, which is over the counter. He said clinical trials have proven it helps to slow down the progression of age-related macular degeneration.

If your doctor told you to start taking AREDS2 then you are not just starting Macular Degeneration. Those vitamins doing nothing for early stage or as a preventive. AREDS are specifically for intermediate Macular Degeneration/AMD.
How old are? Have you gotten a 2nd opinion?

I think all the eye doctors recommend AREDS. Mine did and I followed their instructions. Nobody told me of the possible side effects, of which there are many. If you’ll search this forum, you’ll find a whole thread on “AREDS Side Effects”. I recommend reading that and doing some due diligence before you buy any “eye vitamins”. I suffered side effects for a long time before figuring out it was the AREDS that was causing it. I won’t go into it here because it’s all on the other thread. But it’s been exactly a year since I stopped taking the AREDS.
