Chronic GERD and esophageal issues

Posted by prafu @prafu, Sep 22, 2022

I had covid a week weeks back and during covid I experienced mild acid reflux. A week after I started to experience a mild stabbing like pain in my chest. It went on for a few days, I saw my GI and she sent me for an endoscopy. However before the endoscopy I experienced chronic GERD, to the extent that all of my insides were burning and also like someone is passing electricity though my esophagus. I was prescribed PPI and was trying to manage with antiacid. The symptoms continued to get worse, now I experience a stabbing pain in my chest followed by strangling pain in my throat followed by sore throat and electrical impulses in my jaw and teeth. This flow of pain and discomfort keeps repeating itself. My doctor prescribed scuralfate which barely helped with the intensity of the pain and discomfort, but hasn’t been really good. I was Refered to an esophageal specialist doctor and he believes it’s esophageal spasms and has prescribed esophageal manometry and PH tests . For Which I managed to get appointments only a month from now. I am really stressed and worried . Especially the electric impulse type of pain in my jaw and teeth makes me very tired and very uncomfortable. Does anyone know what’s going on with me, does anyone have any knowledge of experience of this post covid ?

The ER doctor checked me out and asked me to see a neurologist. Does anyone know what’s going on with me, does anyone have any knowledge of experience of this post covid ?

I had the exactly feeling behind my chest. It was also the after effects of Covid, had it twice. I was looking for treatments on FB, googled, bought health books. I was swallowing all the time. It felt like a lump behind my thyroid. There was definitely an irritation in my esophagus. The feeling behind my chest felt like Pneumonia. The worst part was that i couldn't sleep. One time i did not sleep for a week. I sat up and was very depressed. I broke down on a Saturday morning. My husband made an appointment with our fam practitioner who was 375km from us. He prescribed Venlor and Brazepam-6. At least it helped me to sleep. I'm also chewing sugar-free gum. It really helped me with the swallowing and heartburn. I drink more water (warm, boiled water with honey and lemon) first thing every morning, through the day and before 19H00 I go to bed. It is much better now. The only prob is that I'm struggling with constipation now.

Thank you @jen83jen glad to know you are feeling better now. My symptoms seem to take now share every day. Hi recently started to experience tingling( pins and needles) in my tongue and heaviness of the tongue and teeth. Waiting to hear more from my doctor.

I also had the numb feeling at the tip of my tongue and at time my lips. It was an allergy reaction from the facial cream that I've put on my face. And I sometimes woke up with a terrible headache.

Hi @jen83jen my symptoms are repeating themselves in a order and they keep moving in circles. First the chest stabbing followed by neck strangling and jaw, tongue and teeth tingling & the tongue then becomes heavy after a whole day of tingling and the jaw nerves feel like they are paralyzed. I am so tired and honestly stressed. I am so glad to hear you are past this and ar e feeling better . My doc thinks this is esophageal spams and honestly I want a diagnosis.

I have had burning on my tongue, esophagus and stomach for almost a year. It started right after I had COVID. I don’t know if there is any correlation. I’m getting desperate. I’m in a lot of discomfort and there is very little I can eat that doesn’t make it worse. I’ve had an endoscopy and there were no areas of concern. Has anyone had an experience like this?

I understand that a burning tongue sensation could be caused by a fungal infection such as candida, and I see that could be caused after having Covid. So, I suggest checking that possibility, or even trying treatment for that
