Reclast after Forteo?
I have been injecting daily with Forteo for over a year, no problems, and after the end of next year my Doctor wants me to have one Reclast injection. Almost twenty years ago I took Fosomax for five years and had no issues. Why can not you take Fosomax instead of Reclast, which I am afraid of?

Thank you so very, very much for this post. I need courage to take the Reclast infusion next July when the end of the second year on Forteo is. My endocrinologist, Dr. Mannstadt, at Ma General wants me to do this.
@jmanj I'm very happy for you in regard to your success with forteo and reclast as a follow-up drug. Out of curiosity, did you end up with 1 reclast dose only? How long did reclast hold the gains from forteo for you?
I'm taking forteo currently, and need to decide a follow-up med if I go with the original plan, which my endo proposed reclast. I heard reclast could hold gain from forteo for up to 2 years in some patients.
I'm even more curious about you and your doctor's next step of intermittent forteo usage. Could you explain in detail how it's done if you don't mind? When using this approach, what blood/urine bone markers are you monitoring quaterly?
Thank you very much!
@jmanj .. I, as well, would like to hear the answers asked by @mayblin
Many thanks !!!
Me, too. I thought that my Dr. said that I would only get one Reclast injection when my two years on Forteo is up in July.
I am interested too. Will be coming off evenity soon
Do you need special permission to go back on Forteo again after two years? I wish that my to years on Forteo were not coming to an end in July because I would like to stay on it forever.
Yes @janflute usually FORTEO is approved for 18-24 mo. Any subsequent usage would need insurance approval again.
@jmanj, I bookmarked your post in September. It is so unusual to take only one Reclast injection. I'd like to skip Reclast and would love an update on your treatment. May I ask who your endocrinologist is.
@janflute have you discussed with your endo about another round of forteo? My endo is willing. Likely I’ll use HRT after this round. If HRT is not suitable for you, you could ask your endo if it’s a good idea to use Boniva IV, or oral risedronate delayed release (Altevia is the brand) as relay for another round of forteo for you. These might not be sufficient for long term as antiresorptive though.
Dr. mannstadt at Brigham. Thank you so very, very much for this wonderful information. I love taking Forteo and I hate to have my two years come to an end. I feel that it builds quality bone, not brittle like Fosamax or Reclast. My dentist does not want me to take Reclast. I have way to many crowns, and have ready had to have two teeth pulled and have implants. Your information to me is priceless.❤️
